Sac Town Tonight

Cs look to find their winning ways again, after that loss to the Hawks. Cs are without JB but everyone else is here to play! DWhite finds Queta for the JAM to start. PP finds Queta and we are off to a good start. Cs need to get out to a big lead and never look back. Nice seeing Baylor in the starting lineup. Sam hits a corner three and things are looking good. Cs are playing with excellent pace tonight. I love the way Queta is getting in the action tonight. It's crazy that these Kings cut him, which is our gain.      So far everyone who had been in the game had made an impact. With no JB it allows everyone to get additional minutes. With those additional minutes each guy has made an impact. Cs are shooting at a pretty high clip, it's been a very efficient first quarter. A nice forty piece for the Cs in this opening quarter. Cs with a fifteen point lead and should win this one by thirty. Cs look pretty good overall tonight and just need to sustain this...

Welcome sunrise in Surfside Beach, South Carolina

After a tough, cold, snowy early-winter in Northern New Hampshire, my wife, Linda, and I awoke to a gorgeous sunrise in our rental condo in Surfside Beach, South Carolina. Photo by Linda Lane We both love our home in the North Country, and the beauty of the area, but this winter started early and will not give up its hold anytime soon . I am not exaggerating when I tell people that i t almost never stops snowing where we live . There always seems to be at least a few flakes falling. And the winter sun is often obscured by clouds.  The only bad news is that our temporary South Carolina getaway is supposed to get significant snow (meaning 2-5 inches down here) starting tomorrow. And the highway departments have little equipment to get rid of it. God and nature will have to melt it and clear the roads.

Atlanta in the House

Cs welcome the Atlanta Hawks to the Garden and look to cook em like they did in Atlanta. Cs should be ready to go as they are enjoying some home cooking yet again. These are the games you need to build on especially being at home. No Queta tonight but Garza and Williams should be able to fit the bill. I'm hoping PP shows out on his big day. You need to embrace every birthday and everyday for that matter. Let's Go Cs! Time to build a nice win streak, and show why you are a top team in the NBA.       What a crap start for the Cs tonight... The offense stinks right now and I don't have a good feeling. Seven points and the quarter is almost over. Cs need an effective finish to this quarter, because this game is unwatchable. I feel like I'm wasting my time watching this damn game. Anfernee Simons is the only one playing with any juice. Cs are getting smoked and I don't know if they can pull this comeback off. I was looking forward to tonight and now I...

Home Cooking

Cs are back home after that loss in Chicago to face the Blazers. We welcome back Jrue Holiday and Rob Williams. Jrue holds a very special place in my heart and all Celtics fans. He was a huge part in us winning Banner 18. One heck of a defender and overall great player. No matter where he's been, the way he plays is elite. He has been on two NBA championship teams, the Bucks and Celtics. One of my all time favorite players. Rob also holds a special spot for me given how well he played for us and was almost part of a title team.       Cs are looking solid on both ends of the floor. As they should given they are back home. No excuses for them not to win! Too many missed threes up to this point. Cs with a solid lead but Joe wants a timeout and it is needed. Time to get the guys refocused and ready to finish this quarter the right way. I'd really like to see the Cs push their lead as the second seed. I know it's not a big lead now but it could matter...

Da Bulls

Cs are in the windy city tonight, let's hope they can grab the win. JB for three! That's the way to open the game. Cs are in for another dog fight tonight. I'm looking for DWhite to get going and have one of those games. Cs are lacking on the glass right now. So far the Cs have held strong despite being on a back to back. Cs will need to dig down deep if they want to pull this one out. Our defense needs to get a hand in their damn face.       Anfernee Simons is incredibly fast when he attacks the cup. It's like he's shot out of a cannon, kinda like the Flash. For as much as the Cs attack they rarely get any calls. We are all tied up yet again as there is a timeout on the floor. Cs have left some points out there, let's hope they can recoup them. Joe will have to work some magic with the minutes tonight given the double OT game last night. I'd like to see if the guys can go on a run here. Show the Bulls we are here to win.      ...

Is Derrick White All-Star worthy ?

Thus far, only one member of the Boston Celtics, Jaylen Brown , is heading for the 2026 All-Star game. The reserves are yet to be named. The NBA head coaches will decide who they are, and Boston's Derrick White has a shot to make the list. John Schuhmann of nba.com has included White as one of the seven reserves he feels should head to the mid-season festivities. The Celtics have overachieved themselves into second place in the East standings, and despite having some difficulties putting the ball in the basket thus far this season, Derrick is a major part of the reason The Green are thriving. In a League filled with self promoting players, White remains quiet and reserved . There is little fanfare about him, but the NBA coaches should have a high level of respect for what he does on the court. His hustle and defense never fade. White never gives up on a play. Here's hoping "The Quiet Man" gets voted in to accompany his comrade, Jaylen Brown, to the All-Star game....

On The Road Again

Cs are in Brooklyn looking for a win despite being shorthanded. There are plenty of Celtics fans here in Brooklyn. Sam opens up the scoring from three tonight. Baylor follows up with his own three. Great job by Queta going after the miss and earning the C's an extra possession. PP scores to make that Queta hustle play worth while. Cs ball movement has been excellent so far. Cs have let up too many easy shots to the Nets. Cs have lost their early lead as we have a timeout on the floor.      JB has been off so far tonight, hopefully going to the line will get him going. And... he misses the first. Cs have been underwhelming to this point. Simons hits the three and things may be looking up. It would be nice if the Cs can go on a run here. Finish this first quarter the right way! Cs call the timeout as Joe is pissed with their defense. I don't blame him one bit! Tear into em Joe! Cs finish on a decent run but still trail at the half. They better wake the ...

Back Home a Revenge Game

Our Cs are home to play those pesky Pacers who have always given the Cs fits. I mean I remember the 90s when they gave the Big 3 fits yet we always found a way to win. The Truth had his moments with the Pacers. Historically there have been some really good matchups with these two teams. Larry Bird played for the Celtics and coached the Pacers. Larry damn near lead them to a title as Coach. The Pacers have always been right on the cusp. Yet have never tasted winning it all in the NBA. Here's hoping the Cs can handle their business and send em back to Indy with another loss.       Sam hits the first shot for the Cs and its a three! I'm really hoping that Derrick White can get his offense going tonight. He's just been completely off lately and it makes no logical sense to me. I mean he's still doing everything else well but we know how good a scorer he is. Kudos to Aaron Nesmith for finding himself in Indiana. I feel he may not have gotten his chanc...

The return of Al Horford to Boston ? Could happen.

My followers know that I don't write many "What if" articles , particularly ones that speculate about possible additions to the Celtics roster. But this is different . Jimmy Butler's season-ending injury could possibly result in the Warriors tossing the season aside as far as any aspirations of winning another Title. And that could result in a buyout of old friend, Al Horford . Horford may by 39 years old but he is far from taking to the rocking chair. His skills and savvy remain , and the Boston Celtics could use both this post-season. I often refer to Al as the "Dominican Gentleman" , and he is of high character . And he knows the Celtics and their systems. Nemias Queta has done a fine job in the middle for Boston, and Luka Garza has been better than expected. But a veteran inside/outside, 2-way addition - namely Al Horford - could prove invaluable to the Celtics cause this season, particularly with the potential return of Jayson Tatum . Stay tuned!

Breaking down All-Star vote for Jaylen Brown-as-starter

This season will mark Jaylen Brown's fifth selection as an All-Star and his first shot at starting the game. Here's how the voting went from fans, media and current players. The fans ranked the Celtics G/F at #5 - while players put him at #3 . The media put him at the top , ranking Brown at #1. Jaylen's 5th-best weighted score of 3.5 squeezed him into the starting-5 for the 2026 NBA All-Star contest. It is intesting that the media placed Jaylen over every player in the East , while fans ranked him behind Giannis Antetokounmpo, Cade Cunningham, Tyrese Maxey ad Jaylen Brunson . The players rightly put Brown before both Maxey and Brunson. Jaylen is having a career season in Jayson Tatum's absence, and it is refreshing to see the voters put him in the starting unit.

Motor City

Cs are in Detroit to take on the best in the East at least record wise... Cs have played them well this year but I'd to grab a victory tonight. JB and Cade have both balled out facing each other this season. Cs get us started with a Hauser corner bomb! JB gets inside and scores, gets hacked and no call. Both teams are trading blows early on and I'm loving it. JB is dominant from the midrange and should live there. Unless he's driving to drop the hammer on a defender.       Cs have come out giving the Pistons all they can handle. Cs must continue to protect the ball as they only average 12 turnovers a game. This Pistons team can get after it and create turnovers. It's a battle of wills tonight! Cs ball movement has been elite on a few of these offensive possessions. There's a beauty when the ball moves, like a jazz band in unison. We have some jostling between JB and Beef Stew. It's heading to a review I wish Bill Kennedy was Herr tonight. We have...

Anfernee Simons can be Celtics version of Vinnie Johnson

Anyone remember Vinnie Johnson, aka "The Microwave" . Former Celtics head honcho Danny Ainge dubbed him with the moniker because Vinnie would heat up fast when coming off the bench for the Detroit Pistons in the late 80s. Johnson averges 24.7 minutes per game for his career, and the 6'2" combo guard was primarily a scorer and often gave the opposition, including Boston, fits. Well, the Boston Celtics currently have their own version of "The Microwave" in 6'3" guard, Anfernee Simons . Simons is averaging 24.2 PPG off the bench for Boston, and he is hitting 44% from the field and 41% on the long ball . Like Vinnie, he is primarily a scorer - and can be a deadly one. In Jayson Tatum's absence, he has he has excelled in his offensive role. From his arrival in Boston, Anfernee has been the subject of trade talks , He will earn roughly $27.7 million this season on an expiring contract. But the trade deadline is approaching, and Brad Stevens ...

Atlanta Georgia

Jaylen Brown has been balling in this game, I mean it's no surprise given he's back home. He's truly playing at an MVP level this season. Imagine how good we will be once JT comes back?! I wouldn't make any moves unless we can bring someone in thru the buyout market. The Cs team chemistry has been something to behold. You can't knock chemistry especially when guys believe in one another. All these guys have accepted the challenge this season and are succeeding.       Anfernee Simons named after Penny Hardaway has been elite off the bench. This kid has shown me a ton and I wasn't that pleased when we got rid of Jrue for him. Thankfully this young man has shown he can play and do it in Boston. Cs have crashing the boards really well tonight. Offensively they have been elite and are cooking up some Hawk for dinner. Sam Hauser has been an assassin here in the first half. He's on fire as you can see the Nets are smoking every time he hits a three. JB ...

Miami

Cs are in Miami as they are on a 2 game skid, honesty they need this win. The loss to the Spurs I get but losing to the Pacers unacceptable. Time for the Cs to dig in on D and get JB going early. In regards to trading for Jaren Jackson Jr, I love him as a player but he's not worth the money or capital. You need balance on your roster. JB and JT can be your top Dawgs and then allow guys like DWhite and others to do their job. Cs are going with Hauser, Pritch, Queta Brown and White as starters.       This Heat floor is gross, so are their stupid uniforms. Sam gets us on the board with the tip in. The Cs suck right out of the gate and look terrible. Joe needs to and calls a timeout. I'm disgusted with how we have started. Why am I wasting my time watching this crap? I guess it's because I ultimately love the Celtics. Cs end up getting back into the game as they have tightened up their defense. Guys are guarding their yards and starting to grind the ...

On the road again...

Cs fail to come up big and lose to a horrendous Pacer team. No JB is like throwing away a game. Cs had an anemic third in which ultimately cost them the game. You can't have these scoring droughts and expect to win. For a team who has overachieved, these past few games have been very disappointing. Losing to a short handed Nuggets team and now this terrible Pacer team. Losing to the Spurs wasn't ideal but that's a good team. Some of this seasons losses have just been pitiful. I don't enjoy watching my team lose to inferior opponents.      JB is truly an MVP because the Cs were lost without him. Too many poor possessions with no direction. Way too many missed shots and some poor defense. The Cs had moments but not enough to pull this one out. Kudos to Queta for playing his butt off. I love that kid. I hope this long road trip doesn't set us on a losing path. Miami isn't easy and neither are the Hawks. Waiting for us on Martin Luther King Jr Day a...

Wemby In Town

Cs take on the beast that is the San Antonio Spurs. Let's welcome back Luke Kornet! I'm afraid Fox might go off... Cs are cold and need to warm up like a sauce on simmer. Cs are on a ten 0 run and must be Butter cause they are on a roll! LETS GO! Tonight's game has a great feel to it and JB is our here shooting moon balls! I'll tell you this much what a game. It just shows how good the Cs are and can get even better. The referees were horrendous and JB called em out for it.       The Cs missed some opportunities tonight but you can't ignore the one sided calls. Wemby is legit and that whole team is scary. Clearly they beat OKC for a reason. Actually several reasons since they beat them a few times. There some good teams out West and we can hang with them there is no doubt in my mind. Unfortunately we can't hang with the refs... Derrick White played an incredible game and was a hawk on defense. He just gets better and better one of my absolute fav...

Jaylen Brown finally getting respect - now third on MVP Ladder

Well, it took a while, but right now the Celtics Jaylen Brown is getting the recognition he deserves. He now sits at #3 in the Kia MVP Race . Brown is having a career-year in the absence of his partner, Jayson Tatum . He took over the reins of the team and is averaging 29.6 PPG, 6.4 RPG, 5.0 APG and 1.0 SPG . Jaylen is an absolute menace to opponents on both ends of the court . He is a master of mid-range and a defensive demon . Oh, and by the way, his team is in second place in the East standings, which is well beyond what was predicted for The Green this season. Kudos to Jaylen, Brad Stevens, Joe Mazzulla and his staff - and Jaylen's comrades on the court. They are working hard - are fun to watch - and are winning at a clip totally unexpected. Are you not entertained? I am!

Raptor Extinction...

Cs are coming off a bad loss given the Nuggets had no Jokic. JB didn't get any calls whatsoever that night either. I expect to see a more focused Celtics team that is going to hamdle their business. They are currently 2-0 vs the Raptors, both wins in Toronto. With that said we are in the Garden so why not take it to em! Cs fans are we excited to see the Patriots play Sunday night?! I know I am, they have exceeded expectations as have the Cs. Vrabel is an excellent coach and has a great staff. Drake Maye is playing incredibly and I love our run game. Expect the D to be stout come Sunday night.       PP hits the first three of the game, I hope it's the first of many for him. PP is having himself quite the first quarter. The entire team seems to be locked in. Love seeing JB bring down the house with his dunks. Sam Hauser is perfect from deep right now and he's been due for a big game. Let's hope he keeps it rolling all game. Crazy to think this Rapt...

Nuggets Anyone...

No Jokic tonight, but the Nuggets have their other guys playing. It's going to be a dogfight no matter how you look at it. I do expect JB to have a much better game than he did vs the Bulls. Derrick White is the guy I'm watching to have a heck of a game on both ends of the floor. I do want to see the Cs coming out hot from the start. Throw the first punch and every other punch after that. Let's Go Cs!      Again with these gold jerseys, give me a break! Damn JB gets hacked and no call at all, these refs give him no love. JB for three! Talk about a great bounce back. That's what the greats do baby! JB with an excellent defensive play right there. He is the best two way player in the entire NBA. Hands down! The Cs offense is Sputtering early on and we need a spark. The Cs D is lacking as well. JB with the two handed HAMMER JAM! BAM!       Cs are getting a horrendous whistle tonight and Tommy is rolling over in his grave. Im so sick o...

Da Bulls

Cs welcome the Bulls to the Boston Garden after going 4 and 1 on the road trip. Cs must shake off the jet lag as they flew in yesterday from LA. Cs need to be ready to set the tone as this Bulls team likes to push the pace. If the C's play tough basketball this Bulls team will fold. Go Hard or Go Home! Cs are wearing those gold jerseys which I don't like. I prefer my simple home and away jerseys. Queta starts us off with the rebound and score.      JB is on the board and we are up by four! Cs have slowed down a bit and now trail to the Bulls. DWhite gets on the board and I'm all for him to go off. Sam is on the board and when he's on I like our chances. Cs are looking good from deep early tonight. Hugo has been a pleasant surprise all season and especially tonight. Simons is off tonight and needs to get inside the three point line. Cs are rolling though up by fifteen.       Nice to see and hear Dee Brown tonight, I loved him as a p...

Fishing through the ice in the North Country

For those wondering what some folks in Northern New Hampshire do on a Sunday afternoon with temperatures in the single numbers, some northern inhabitants (not me) choose to retreat to their ice fishing shacks on the upper Androscoggin River . Ice shanties on the Androscoggin - photo by Linda Lane Some of thesse shelters are little more than an unheated tent, while the majority of shacks are made of wood - have various heating devices inside - and provide ample protection from the cold and wind. Photo by Linda Lane And if a tiny-but-heated shanty is not enough, some ice fishermen go all out and hit the ice in total comfort. Fish taken on the upper Androscoggin River include brook trout, rainbow trout, brown trout and bass. The ice fishing shacks are out there and very active - a sure sign that winter has taken the area in its grip. The number of shanties on the river north of Berlin, NH seems to have increased over the years. Done right, it is one way to ride out a bitter-cold ...

How Celtics replaced 73 points, 31 rebounds and 16 assists

Yes, those are the 2024-25 combined per-game stats for Jayson Tatum, Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford, Jrue Holiday and Luke Kornet - 73 points, 31 boards and 16 assists. Last season's roster is not simply depleted - it was ravaged. But Brad Stevens, Joe Mazzulla , the Celtics staff and the players themselves have done a masterful job of competing at a high level , and now reside in third place in the East. Payton Pritchard may still be somewhat of a liability on defense due to his lack of height, but you would have to search a bit to find a player that uses his available tools to better advantage. Derrick White's shot may be somewhat off target this season, but he is one of the main reasons Boston is sitting where they are in the standings. And Jaylen Brown's current version of "Celtics Alpha" is working out just fine. He remains a bit of a turnover machine, but he leads this team by example and is having a career season at the right time . The only positive...

A fifty piece for JB

What can we say about JB... He was absolutely spectacular last night. He was hitting shots from the midrange, from deep and getting to the cup. Plus he was defending the Clippers best player. Tell me that's not an MVP?! The Cs traded away most of their core players and yet JB has willed this team to a top 3 seed in the East. The heavily favored Knicks are underperforming and yet we hear more about Brunson than we do JB.       What's crazy is Pritch, DWhite. Garza, Walsh, and Simons all scored in double figures. Plus a few guys with 8, who were so close to double figures. Such balance yet JBs performance set the night on fire. What's not to love about this team, they were long labeled dead after all those trades. Yet Brad brought in guys who are showing that they can play this game. This team is shaping up into a contender in the East. Actually they are a legit damn contender in the East. They have proven they can beat the Pistons and the Knicks....

Derrick White having a Dennis Johnson-like season

Derrick White's recent block party versus the Utah Jazz brought back memories of Dennis Johnson - and not only because the two players are tied for most blocks by a non-center (7 blocks) . Both players hover(ed) around 6'4" - play(ed) both PG and SG - and excel(led) at both ends of the court. Below are stats for White this season and DJ from his final Championship season with Boston (1986): White: 18.3 PPG - 4.3 RPG - 5.2 APG - 1.4 SPG - 1.5 BPG - .398 FG - .344 3s - .875 FT Johnson: 15.6 PPG - 3.4 RPG - 5.8 APG - 1.4 SPG - 0.4 BPG - .455 FG - .143 3s - .818 FT I personally hold the late Dennis Johnson in high esteem and have been delighted to see Derrick White step in so well in the absence of Jayson Tatum . And another thing I like about the comparison is that neither player showboats out on the court. They are known for making winning plays without the celibratory flashes seen too often in the NBA.

A New Year...

Happy New Year Cs fans!       Cs are flat right now and need to get going. They must be hungover from last night? PP scores and I'm off the ledge... PP scores again and he might go off. Another shot for PP! He's on a heater folks. This Kings team came to play tonight. Cs really need to get some stops, and they better start playing with more effort. If they don't this could end up being a loss. I can't believe I'm going to say this but my favorite red is doing tonight's game. The great Bill Kennedy!      Cs are a tad turnover prone lately and that is going to cost them as it did in Portland. Luka Garza and Simons hit back to back threes! We are all tied up folks! Cs fans are rocking it out here in Sacramento. You have to love how Celtics fans travel. Cs are playing zone and I think it's a great strategy. Brad Stevens has done a great job overall finding guys who fit Celtic basketball. Especially with who he picked up this season. Th...
