You're sick of hearing it, but Celts need to moderate "3-point mania"

I know it! Many of you know it! Even the Jay Team knows it! Charles Barkley commented - after the Celtics loss in Game-1 to the Knicks - The Celtics are a team that "has no Plan B". The 45 missed treys by Boston amounted to 135 points .  Trust me! I am not against the 3-pointer in NBA games. I have always stated that the best solution to a problem usually lies somewhere between the extremes . Avoiding the long ball entirely is a mistake. Continuing to chuck them up ( 60 attempts, 25% success in Game 1 ) when they are not falling is folly. Against New York, Boston never went to Barkley';s "Plan B". Launching 3-pointers is the easy way out. Jayson Tatum: "There were probably some times that we settled." Tatum said he believes he could have put more pressure on the rim. — Jay King (@ByJayKing) May 6, 2025 That is all!

Are Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown "too nice"?

"(Jaylen) Brown and (Jayson) Tatum are great players, but they are nice guys. I never met a great player  that was really, really a nice guy". --- Charles Barkley That is what Sir Charles had to say about a Celtics team that had been destroyed (114-105) by a Lebron-less, Brow-less Lakers crew. Is it true? "You can't tweak your little finger without your brain initiating the action." --- Tom Lane This is not simply part of a bad stretch for Boston. Their minds are not into the regular season, and they are once again bored with the 82 games that lead to the post-season. "I'm almost off their bandwagon... They don't win on toughness and defense." Do any long-time Celtics fans...

Ainge can turn his team around mid-season. He did it with the Suns.

The Phoenix Suns started the 1996-97 season losing their first eight games. Charles Barkley had been traded prior to the season, and with the poor start, Coach Cotton Fitzsimmons was sent packing in favor of former Suns guard, Danny Ainge . Phoenix went 40-34 the rest of the way, making the playoffs. The Suns were 17-31 before the All-Star Break and 23-11 thereafter . Aside from the coaching change, one key in the surge was the addition of future star, Jason Kidd during the season. As an aside, the team also had a young Steve Nash , in addition to veteran Kevin Johnson . The Suns surge was rated as one of the most-dramatic second-half turnarounds in NBA history .   5. 1996-1997 Phoenix Suns Before the Break:   17-31 (35.42 Percent) After the Break:   23-11 (67.65 Percent) Turnaround:   32.23 Percent Getting rid of Charles Barkley hurts, especially when you trade him for Mark Bryant, Chucky Brown and Robert Horry.  The 1996-1997 Phoenix Suns started the ...

Philadelphia 76'ers getting criticism from Philly media and Charles Barkley

The Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey thinks his 76'ers team may be overhyped. NBA TV's Charles Barkley had previously picked Philly to go to the Finals this season, but I heard him this morning state that they "got no chance" of getting to the Finals ( per Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey ): So far, (Ben) Simmons has only attempted two three-pointers in 15 games played and foul shooting still remains an Achilles’ heel. He’s shooting just 58.3% from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, only two of Embiid’s 11 shots during his scoreless outing Monday against the Toronto Raptors came in the paint. So at least for now, the two are kind of the same players they were in seasons past. "If you want people to remember The Process forever, you've got to step up." Shaq & Chuck share their concerns with Joel Embiid pic.twitter.com/KEugaVqAik — NBA on TNT (@NBAonTNT) May 8, 2019 In a previous NBA TV broadcast last May, Sir Charles had some thou...

NBA clamps down on listed heights of its players - the long-and-short of it

The NBA has decided to clamp down on the listed heights of it's players. The little guys have often been listed as taller than the reality, while bigs over 7-feet have have sometimes insisted that they are shorter than what the numbers indicate. Start with Bill Walton. He played two seasons in Boston and was always shown to be 6'11", yet he clearly was taller than teammate, Robert Parish, who was listed at 7'0.5". Wes Unseld was listed at 6'7" but that must have included the height of his large Afro. Charles Barkley was alleged to be 6'6", but 6'4" may have been closer to his real height. In the modern NBA, Isaiah Thomas comes to mind. He shows at 5'9" on paper, but my daughter stood next to him and told me that he was closer to 5'7"-5'8" in height. How about Kevin Durant? No way he is 6'9" tall. To get his actual height, add at least two or three inches. For years some players have been listed a...

Everybody knows "The Bird is the Word" - he couldn't have been this good - could he?

But, yes he was - he was that good. Larry Bird wasn't quick - couldn't jump - wasn't athletic. But COULD HE PLAY! The highlight reel below is a great reminder of just how good he was. If there was a reward for getting the most out of your limited, God-given assets on the hardwood, he gets my vote. The background so-called music is Surfin Bird by the Trashmen. Try to get through it. And for those that want more punishment, I offer the lower video. And our writers at @_Celtics_Center were just rambling about Celtics games they have seen and going to The Garden. I was there for the infamous Boston/Philly game where Bird tangled with Julius Erving and Charles Barkley (photo below). Basketball was Larry's life, his dream, his passion. He worked for everything he accomplished. That is why he was so good. If you last through more than 20 seconds watching the bottom Trashmen vid, you deserve your own reward. Past viewers have complained of getting The Jitters very quickly. ...
