Free agent center options for Boston Celtics

Celtics center, Kristaps Porzingis , has recently undergone foot/ankle surgery, and is not expected back on the floor until late November or early December. I have already broached Daniel Theis as a viable free agent option for Boston who might sign on for a vet-minimum deal , and there are a few other possibilities out there ( per Yahoo Sports Morten Stig Jensen ): 4.  Andre Drummond ,  Chicago Bulls Andre Drummond C - CHI - #3 2023 - 2024 SEASON 8.4 Pts 9 Reb 0.9 Stl 0.6 Blk 17:06 Min Status: unrestricted free agent 2023-24 salary: $3,360,000 2023-24 digits: 8.4 points, 9 rebound and 0.5 assists In recent years, Drummond has come off the bench. He's made the pivot that Valančiūnas is on the threshold of. However, Drummond's impact could be viewed as starting caliber-worthy through the proper lens. As his generation's best rebounder and one of the best of all time in that department, Drummond is elite on the offensive glass (3.4 in 17.1 minutes this year), whi...

Malcolm Brogdon reportedly playing through right arm injury

According to anonymous sources, granted anonymity because they were not authorized to give out this information, the Celtics Malcom Brogdon has been playing through an injury to his right arm ( per TheAthletic's Jared Weiss ):  Malcolm Brogdon  has been playing through a partial tear in the tendon coming out of his right elbow that leads into his forearm, team sources told  The Athletic. Brogdon suffered the injury in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, according to the sources, who were granted anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on the record. The  Celtics  guard was initially dealing with golfer’s elbow soreness during the second-round series against  Philadelphia , but an MRI after Game 1 against the  Heat  determined he exacerbated the injury by tearing the tendon in boxing out  Miami Heat  big  Kevin Love  midway through the first quarter. This would explain why the current Sixth-Man-of-the-Year has...

Kevin Love: Please Come to Boston

Yes, I get it! Kevin Love is reportedly negotiating a buyout from the Cleveland Cavaliers ansd is possibly heading to Miami . After many seasons in Minnesota and Cleveland, he may want to spend his time in a warm part of the planet. Love is basically a California guy - the nephew of the Beach Boys Mike Love - but how about the East Coast. How about Boston . The 5-time All-Star is not done yet. He already has one Champiopnship ring when he paired with Lebron James in Cleveland. Kevin has always been a solid guy on the boards and possesses one of the most-effective outlet passes I have witnessed . And he can score from anywhere on the court ( per Wikipedia ): "His (Love's) middle name, Wesley, is in honor of  Wes Unseld , the former  Washington Bullets  center and the Loves' family friend." Love has seen limited floor time lately, but he was runner-up for Sixth-Man-of-the-Year last season, averaging 13.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. I have al...

Should Celtics "wing" it or go big?

The question was recently raised on an NBA TV broadcast. Should the Celtics trade for a big man like Kevin Love or hit the post-season with the assortment of wings they now have? Including Marcus Smart into the mix, Boston has a total of four talented, veteran wings at their disposal. The Jay Team isn't going anywhere soon, but to make the money work, either Gordon Hayward or Smart would have to go to bring in a talented big. Granted, last night's loss to the injury-depleted Raptors was disappointing - but that's all it is. Toronto came out with energy - the Celtics couldn't hit their 3-pointers - and the game was lost. I expect that to happen periodically to the best of teams. The game isn't played by robots - at least so far. I like the crew the Celtics put on the floor right now. They are winning, and they are different. I like different - if it works. And this is. Smart can play 1-through-5, and when was the last time you saw a 6'3" NBA player exhib...

The Celtics play the Cavs tonight - But let's look ahead to the playoffs

The Celts have started out 4-1 and the national media doesn't seem to have caught on to how good we are yet.  I guess people don't pay a lot of attention to what happens early in the season on the NBA because some of the players are still getting in game shape and teams are all working on chemistry.  The Celts came into the season in game shape and they have the chemistry.  So what is left for us to work on?  Rebounding. A game like tonight's is exactly the challenge we need to see where we measure up.  Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson are two of the best rebounders in the game.  Love is averaging 15+ a game and Thompson grabs 11+ a game.  That is more than any individual Celtic gets (Jayson Tatum leads with 8 per game).  As a team, however, the Celts and Cavs both average 46.5 boards a game.  Here is my point:  The ONLY way that the Cavs beat the Celts tonight is if they outrebound us.  We know that going in.  We know who we ...

Celtics weakness at center spot will be exposed & exploited in playoffs

Things are going fine thus far for the Celtics, starting the season with a 4-1 record. Kemba Walker has stepped in just fine to fill the point guard position vacated by Kyrie Irving, but the loss of center Al Horford to the Philadelphia 76'ers will really start to hurt come playoff time. It is a well-known axiom that in post-season play, teams will expose and exploit any opponent's weaknesses - and for the Celtics that means lack of length and versatility at the five-spot. Al Horford had the length at 6'10", and he certainly had the diversified game. His primary replacement, Enes Kanter has played only one game for The Green, a loss to the 76'ers. French import, Vincent Poirier has played a total of 12 minutes this season, scoring four points and grabbing one rebound. Daniel Theis has been the best solution so far, but he is undersized at center and just can't handle the brutish big men. I have argued that Rob Williams should end up with the starting gig a...
