Yabu-to-Boston Celtics? Anyone? Bueller?

You remember Guerschon Yabusele. He played for two seasons in Boston , but was best-known for his wide butt and playfully dumping liquids over his teammates. Well, his current team, the Philadelphia 76'ers, are struggling once again - have a hold on the 11th spot in the East Standings - and are well-known for shamelessly tanking . "Yabu" has done some good things since leaving Beantown, and he is having a productive season with Philly. He did well playing for France in the recent Olympics, and at 6'8" and trimmed-down 265 pounds, he could provide some help for the Celtics at both the center-and-power-forward slots. "Guersch" currently earns roughly $2.0 million with the 76'ers for this season, and he will be a free agent this summer . So it appears that the Celtics 2016 first-round draft pick (16th overall) may be a late bloomer and could continue to improve his game. The downside is that he is 29 years old , and with Boston's stacked ro...

Good news for former-Celtic, Guerschon Yabusele - signs with Nanjing Tongxi

Guerschon Yabusele has found a new home after being waived earlier this year by the Boston Celtics. After being drafted with the 16th pick in the 2016 NBA draft, Yabu always seemed to be dealing with a conditioning issue and never seemed to be full locked in to a significant role with Boston. Guerschon Yabusele to sign with Nanjing Tongxi https://t.co/egBwr7RK1p via @Carchia — Sportando (@Sportando) August 16, 2019 The well-liked Frenchman averaged only 7.1 minutes per game in his two seasons with Boston, averaging 2.3 PPG and 1.4 RPG. His lackluster performance in Summer League this past off-season made it evident that he was not an NBA-caliber player - at least not yet. Yabu's stint with the G-League Maine Red Claws told a different story. In 17 games, he averaged 19.8 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 2.5 APG, 1.1 SPG and 1.4 BPG - while shooting 50% on field goals and 37% on treys. With NBA experience under his (hopefully loose) belt, he may thrive in China. We wish him well. Follow Tom ...

Grant Williams is a higher-skilled replacement for Guerschon Yabusele's joyousness

The Celtics waiving of the much-loved Guerschon Yabusele was a tough and emotional move, but it needed to happen. He was an absolute pleasure to be around for his teammates, but he just didn't project to be a solid NBA player. Now comes rookie Grant Williams, who always seems to be up emotionally. His verbal pleasantries never seem to end, even when the occasional teammate wishes they would. Grant was sent by The Universal Spirits to fix the Celtics team culture and cameraderie https://t.co/U9ROB1s8An — LIFELONG PELICANS FAN MAN 69☭ (@Riffs_Man) July 22, 2019 Grant averaged 13.0 PPG and 6.0 RPG in Summer League . What is most-notable is the fact he scored a team-high plus/minus over the first four games. It looks like G-Will can contribute to winning right way when the regular season begins. An he brings some fun and joyousness that departed with Guersch's release. . @Grant2Will was one of the best rookies in the Vegas with averages of 13/6/2, but his impact went far beyo...

Guerschon Yabusele had to go - so what's next?

Danny Ainge is playing another numbers game here, and he just made a necessary move by waiving third-year forward, Guerschon Yabusele. With the logjam at the wing position - the success of the Summer League crew - and the disappointing play of Guersch as a member of that unit, meant the writing was on the wall. Yabu had to go. Frankly, it was painful to watch Guersch in action for the three Summer League contests, all wins for Boston. He looked slow and uncertain and was being outplayed by many of his teammates with zero NBA experience. The Celtics may have to eat his $3.1 million for this season, but it had to be done. So where does that leave us. Danny already has Max Strus and Tremont Waters locked up on two-way contracts. Grant Williams looks like he can contribute right away and should be heading to a standard contract. As a second-rounder, Carsen Edwards' deal is not set in stone, and Ainge can attempt to negotiate any contract that is agreeable to both parties. He has...

Breaking: Celtics waive French forward, Guerschon Yabusele

Several hours ago, I wrote that the Celtics had a logjam at the wing position and that Guerschon Yabusele should probably find a fit on a rebuilding team. We now learn via reports that he has been waived. The #Celtics waiving Yabusele this early is likely a nod to giving him time to find a landing spot elsewhere (in NBA or abroad). They could have kept up to 20 players on the roster through preseason, but it was clear that he wasn't worthy of a 15-man roster spot. — Brian Robb (@BrianTRobb) July 10, 2019 With two years under his belt, the 16th pick in the 2016 draft hasn't shown much. And the three 2019 Summer League games have only verified that he may not be an NBA-level talent. When a player is best-known for his big butt and friendly manner, you know he may not be long for the league. I, for one, feel bad for him, but the writing was on the wall - and ironically on my computer earlier this morning. We wish this decent young man the best, and he may find a home on a...

Five takeaways from Celtics 96-82 Summer League win over 76'ers

The most obvious good news is that Boston won their first Summer League game by defeating Philadelphia 96-82. There are a number of bright spots, but lets get the bad news out of the way. 1.) Guerschon Yabusele needs to be traded I have held off on writing this for close to a year, but going into his third NBA season, it looks like Yabu may have been re-signed by Danny Ainge simply for future trade purposes. In the Philly game, he played 16 minutes - did not score (0-of-4 from the field) - while coming away with a team-low plus/minus of -12. He is signed this season for $3.1 million, a sum that may be useful in a trade, and he is slated for $4.8 million next season with a team option. This young Frenchman is loved by everybody, but I don't see him as a long-term player in the Big League. 2.) Carsen Edwards looks like keeper Yes, I know it was only one game from Summer League, but in 28 minutes, Carsen notched 20 points, 15 of which came from beyond the arc. He added three ste...
