Finals Preview...

What could have been an incredible game turned out into disgust for me. No other star would ever be thrown out of a game. The only two that are on the NBAs radar are the Jay's. JB gets fouled and there is no call, he voiced his disgust to the ref and got a T. Given his frustration he was very talkative and a different ref trying to make a name for himself throws him out. Apparently the NBA didn't think the Spurs could beat both Jay's so they canned em. I mean realistically if the Cs were healthy and had JB they beat the Spurs easily. We were missing Pritch and Vuc.       Overall the Cs played well but Wemby is clearly unstoppable and an amazing talent. I mean what can't that young man do?! With that said if we see them in the Finals I expect a better job to be done defensively. Overall we saw everyone give their best last night. The Spurs play really tough D but damn near foul guys every time. They are similar to how OKC defends and fouls every t...

Wemby In Town

Cs take on the beast that is the San Antonio Spurs. Let's welcome back Luke Kornet! I'm afraid Fox might go off... Cs are cold and need to warm up like a sauce on simmer. Cs are on a ten 0 run and must be Butter cause they are on a roll! LETS GO! Tonight's game has a great feel to it and JB is our here shooting moon balls! I'll tell you this much what a game. It just shows how good the Cs are and can get even better. The referees were horrendous and JB called em out for it.       The Cs missed some opportunities tonight but you can't ignore the one sided calls. Wemby is legit and that whole team is scary. Clearly they beat OKC for a reason. Actually several reasons since they beat them a few times. There some good teams out West and we can hang with them there is no doubt in my mind. Unfortunately we can't hang with the refs... Derrick White played an incredible game and was a hawk on defense. He just gets better and better one of my absolute fav...

Is the NBA quadruple-double extinct?

Only four NBA players have done it - registering double-digits in four major stats in a single game. And it has been more than 30 years since anyone has done it. David Robinson accomplished the feat in 1994, coming away with 34 points, 10 boards, 10 assists and 10 blocks. Nate Thurmond, Alvin Robertson and Hakeem Olajuwon also did it in prior years.  To accomplish a quad-double, it pays to be big and a defensive-minded player. All of the above foursome won the Defensive-Player-of-the-Year Award at least once, and three were centers - with Robertson being the sole non-center. Points, Rebounds and Assists seem to be the common denominator, and the fourth stat was blocks for the three centers - but steals for Robertson. Here's Nate Thurmond on quad-doubles ( per Wikipedia): "The reason why [the quadruple-double] is such a hard thing to accomplish is because it requires a player to be completely dominant on both ends of the court without being too selfish—so he can get the ...

Wemby versus Kareem as rookies

We already know that the Spurs Victor Wembanyama is going to be an NBA phenomenon, but will he surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar by the end of his career. It is highly likely.  I did a "per-36-minutes" comparison between the two stars, mainly because Kareem logged 43.1 MPG in his rookie campaign - while Wemby has been held to only 29.4 MPG. Kareem: 24.1 PPG - 12.1 RPG - 3.4 APG - .518 FG - .653 FT Wemby:  25.9 PPG - 12.9 RPG - 4.5 APG - .463 FG - .796 FT No blocks, steals or 3-pointers were looked at since they were not tracked in Jabbar's first year in the NBA. It should also be noted that Kareem was 22 years old at the time, while Victor started at age 20. Two factors favoring Wembanyama ultimately surpassing Jabbar on any "Best-of-All-Time" charts are his point guard skills , shared by so many European players.  and the fact he is being mentored by Gregg Popovich. His potential seems astounding. But the question remains. Can he garner six Titles and six MVP ...

Changed my mind on Luke Kornet

Earlier in the Celtics season, I was skeptical of Luke Kornet earning a significant role in the rotation, but that has changed. He more than held his own in the pivot against "Wonderchild Wemby" (Victor Wembanyama) in Boston's win over the Spurs.. Luke started the game and produced six points, nine boards, four assists, one steal and three blocks. Kornet is an absolute threat inside on both ends of the floor. Per-36-minutes, he averages 8.7 rebounds per game - 4.4 of which are offensive. His footwork is nimble enough to guard out to the 3-point arc, and he has good hands to catch any type of pass inside. And he a verages 2.5 blocks per-36-minutes. Changed my mind on value of Luke Kornet! Luke Kornet Highlights | Celtics vs. Spurs | 17th Jan 2024 https://t.co/GG9tSFIDfV via @YouTube — Tom Lane (@CelticsSentinel) January 18, 2024  The question for some time has been - What effective backups at the center spot can produce in the second-half of the season and the playo...

The Number One pick is in the building.

The Celtics are a bit short handed as they welcome the Spurs and the Number One Pick!  1Q ☘️ Al I'm assuming will take on the task of guarding Wemby. Let's wish him all the luck because that's a big dude. JT opens up the scoring tonight. JB follows up with a three ball. Wemby is an interesting player to watch. He has some q uality skills and is looking really good tonight. Jrue Holiday continues his continued hot shooting from deep. Smooth as a good whiskey! Brown looks pretty good coming off that day of rest. Tonight we have no KP or DWhite, I'm sure we will see both against the Nuggets on Friday night . That should be an incredible game. The defending champions against the NBAs best home record which the C's hold . Will it be a Finals preview?! Love seeing OB get some early run, as he drives to the cup and scores. This Spurs team plays very little defense. C's need to expose them on that end. So far offensively the C's look solid. It's been a while bu...

Is this the new "shape" of the NBA?

Has anyone else noticed that there seems to be a trend towards "slenderness" in the NBA . A number of present and future stars are thinner that what prevailed in the past seven (7) decades. It starts with the top-2 players in the Kia Rookie-of-the-Year Ladder. Victor Wembanyama is listed at 7'4" and 210 pounds, while Chet Holmgren is 7'1" and 195 pounds. In earlier times,  Bill Russell was considered to be a "slender" center at 6'9.5" and 220 pounds , and Reggie Lewis, listed at 6'7" and 195 pounds , was slim for the times. Now to the Kia MVP Ladder . Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is 6'6" and 180 pounds , while Tyrese Haliburton is 6'5" and 185 pounds . Both are top-10 in the ROY rankings.  Trae Young isn't in the MVP Ladder, but he is a legit star and stands at 6'1" and 164 pounds . That is shades of Allen Iverson. Is this a lasting trend or simply a temporary phenomenon?  I believe "slenderne...
