Celtics playoff rotation solidifying

It appears that Celtics Coach, Joe Mazzulla , is mentally constructing the post-season, 8-man rotation that he feels may deliver Banner 19 to Boston. In the last 10 contests , the seven players averaging more than 25 minutes per game are Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Sam Hauser, Neemias Queta, Baylor Sheierman and Payton Pritchard . And it is expected that Nikola Vucevic , upon his return from injury, will round out the 8-man playoff crew. Sheierman is the wild card here . In the 10-game span, he is producing 6.8 PPG, 6.4 RPG and 2.3 APG in 27 minutes per contest. He only played very-limited minutes in four playoff games last year, so it is uncertain how he will handle the pressure of more floor time in the up-tempo post season. But the second-year man at 25 years of age has handled himself well on the court during the regular season, and Mazzulla is hoping that holds true come playoff time. The same can be said for Queta. In the past two post-seasons, he never ...

Baylor Scheierman continues to start - and shine

Celtics sophomore, Baylor Scheierman , seems to be getting a lot of attention from his coach, Joe Mazzulla . In last night's win over the Chicago Bulls , Scheierman started his 8th contest of the season and contributed 10 points, five boards, one assist and one steal. The 6'6" shooting guard hit 2-of-7 from the fieeld and 2-of-5 from deep . Baylor is averaging 45% on field goals for the season and 39% on threes . He has started 4-of-the-last five games - four of them wins. His floor time contunes to rise. Scheierman's 4-year contract at an average of $3.2 million per year is fully guaranteed through the 2028 season - with team options for 2026-27 (already exercised by Celtics) and 2027-28. He looks to be a  "keeper" for Brad Stevens.

Knicks dominate Celtics and get the win

Boston Celtics versus New York Knicks. Baylor Scheierman and Luka Garza in the starting unit, along with Neemias Queta, Derrick White and Jaylen Brown. Boston starts 0-5 on their shooting. Scheierman breaks the ice with two free throws. Baylor looks to be a keeper for Brad Stevens. With both Payton Pritchard and Nikola Vucevic coming off the bench, it appears Joe Mazzulla is still experimenting to find a solid 8-9-man rotation for the second half of the season and playoffs. Celtics hitting 1-of-7 on the long ball - not a good sign. Then it''s "Vooch" with a "3", But Boston is only 2-of-12 on threes. It's 35-24 in favor of NY at the end of the first quarter. Mazzulla once again goes to his 2-big combo of Queta and Vucevic for quarter #2, but Vooch goes out quickly with his 3rd foul. Scheierman with six boards and five assists midway through the second quarter. He can do a lot out there. Baylor is having a great game. Now up to eight rebounds and five ass...

Baylor Scheierman showing signs of being the "shooter-with-size" Brad Stevens looks for

Former Celtics Head Honcho, Danny Ainge once mentioned his team needing a shooter with size . And Brad Stevens appears to have that same mindset. At 6'6" and 205 pounds , sophomore Baylor Scheierman , is showing he may be that commodity . The 30th pick in the 2024 draft racked up 13 points (5-of-7 FG, 2-of -5 on 3s), three rebounds and a plus/minus of +13 in 30 minutes of play in Boston's win over the Detroit Pistons. . In limited minutes t his season he is hitting on 61% of his fireld goals and 54% of his 3-pointers . The Celtics recently lost a very effective (but fragile) shooter-with-size in Kristaps Porzingis , and Baylor may never achieve what The Unicorn did, but as a fixed rotation guy going forward, Scheierman could continue to improve and fit securely in Stevens future plans ( per Wikipedia ): On June 26, 2024, Scheierman was selected with the 30th overall pick by the  Boston Celtics  in the  2024 NBA draft . [ 12 ]  His selection received genera...

Celtics exercising option on Sheierman's 2026-27 contract a "no-brainer"

It is no surprise that the Boston Celtics have exercised their club option on Baylor Sheierman's contract . He will be kept on the roster for next season for a mere $2.7 million . Scheierman is currently the 12th man in minutes for Boston this season, averaging only 8.5 minutes per game . He is a known shooter, but even his per-36-minutes stats only show 3.2 points per contest . The same enlarged stats do show a penchant for board work at 12.7 rebounds per 36 minutes . But Baylor's 4th season with the Celtics presents a different picture. Brad Stevens also holds a club option for 2027-28 on the 6'6" shooting guard for the sum of close to $5.0 million . So, unless Scheierman improves his production prior to that, Boston may choose to move on from him. Thus, Stevens and Joe Mazzulla need to monitor Baylor's fit with the team. He may either be a late bloomer (a la Chauncey Billups) or a bust as an NBA-level player. This season and next will determine his futur...

Suns set in Boston

🍀       Cs look to bounce back from that loss on Wednesday night. They welcome the Suns who they rolled by thirty points last week. Let's hope they can duplicate that tonight. It looks like most of the Cs should be playing tonight. Cs are going to be epic come playoff time with their three headed monster in the post. KP, Al, and Luke are all playing elite basketball. I trust all three will make huge plays during the playoffs. Cs have a very deep roster that will shine once the playoffs start.       JBs haircut is smooth folks! JB drives early on and gets fouled. I like the way he consistently attacks the cup when he gets the rock. JB needs one more point to pass Antoine Walker on the Celtics scoring record list. Right there he scores and there it is! Way to go JB! Toine was always a favorite of mine, and had many memorable plays in Celtic green. We all remember his inspiring speech that led to a huge Celtics comeback vs the Nets in the Eastern Coferen...

Cs look to tame the Grizz

🍀      Cs will face the Grizz shorthanded yet again. There will be no JB or Luke tonight. It will have to be the next man up motto tonight. We do however get Al and PP back tonight. Let's hope we can get some payback for the game in Boston earlier this season. Cs give up the first basket of the game. Look at X getting the start tonight! Hoping he has a solid game.        Cs offense has been a bit anemic here, right until KP drilled that three. That is his shot and it can't be stopped. It's so pretty to watch when it swishes through the net. The defenders really have opportunity to affect that shot. Oh boy... Tony Brothers is doing tonight's game. If Tommy were here he would be railing against him. He's always been anti Celtics. Let's hope he doesn't screw us tonight.       JT hits the three effortlessly! This game seems like it is going wire to wire. Cs and Grizz are trading blows. Ja always plays with an extra edge vs us. JT...

Cs are the Kings of the Road

🍀       Nice to see JB back on the floor, he brings a level of intensity second to none. JB gets himself on the board as he gets in the paint and scores. The way he I'd able to use his body is blunt force trauma to whoever gets in his way. Ever since he's been in the league he has improved at whatever short comings his game has. Cs look like a team coming off a back to back. Very sloppy play early on and it needs to be cleaned up.       Cs have been excellent on the road this season. Which bodes well since it they get to the ECF and Finals they will be on the road. It could set up winning those series at home in six games. To be honest I would not be surprised if the Cavs get upset in the playoffs. OKC I'm thinking should win the west unless a team like the Nuggets takes it to them. I don't see any other western team beating them. Especially not those frauds in LA.       Cs owe this Kings team some payback, last time we met t...

No Tatum No Brown... No Problem

Cs start things off here in the third with back to back threes. DWhite drives and scores to tie the game up! As we all know the C's are short handed with no Tatum or Brown. I'm a little late to the party given I was working my other job. KP looks pretty good as he gets inside and scores. C's are a bit sloppy out here right now. You have to love DWhite as he gets to the cup and goes glass. It should have been an And One!       DWhite drives and scores! This time he has a shot at the And One! He's cash money! C's have a lot of talent overall on this roster. It's evident tonight being without the Jays. DWhite nails the three in the flow of the offense. I love when he rises up and lets it fly! PP for three and the lead is ours! Both Derrick and Payton like finding each other on the floor. It wasn't too long ago that they both scores forty plus.       After tonight the C's will be on quite a long road trip. They will not return hom...

Celtics take Baylor Scheierman at #30, a carbon copy of Sam Hauser

It is noteworthy that the Celtics, in choosing to draft Baylor Scheierman , with the 30th pick in last night's draft - they got a guy that is almost a carbon copy of present-Celtic, Sam Hauser. The 6'7", 205-pound Creighton product is a true sharpshooter, specializing in the 3-pointer. Brad Stevens will almost surely pick up the team option on Hauser by the deadline on June 29, 2024, paying him $2.1 million for the upcoming season. Extending Sam's contract by July 6, 2024 is not totally assured. Scheierman will turn 24 years old this September, making him one of the oldest draftees taken last night. He could surprise, but it is doubtful if he will log significant minutes this season. And the odds are good that Stevens could work our an extension for Hauser within the tight financial framework facing Boston. If not, Boston may take a shot on Scheierman seeing more floor time this season - and hopefully show enough promise to work him into the rotation in the near ...
