I am a huge fan of North Woods Law, seen on the Animal Planet TV channel. I also have the advantage of living in the Great North Woods where so much of the Conservation Officers' education and enforcement take place. I have encountered these men on a number of occasions, and they are fit, courteous, intelligent and versatile - they have to be. Their tasks are so demanding, in so many ways, I delved into the physical requirements for trainees. These standards are very task-specific, and for the curious, here they are: Description of Physical Aptitude Test 1. Water Requirements: (A) Tread water for 15 minutes; and (B) Swim 200 yards, in 7 minutes, using any stroke except the dog paddle. 2. 1 ½ mile run – 12-minute time allowance. 3. Using an attached rope, candidates must drag (continuous motion/without stopping) a 185 lb. object a distance of 75 feet. 4.
