Easter Sunday equals Cs Win

I hope everyone had a great Easter with their families. I tried my best to get the most out of family time and watching the Cs. What I saw in that first half was a Celtics team that was rusty. Yes they built up a nice lead but quickly let it fall. During that time they missed shots that usually go in and their defense was a step slow. That half was the Magics opportunity to really grab a good lead and it was only one. This Magic team is very good defensively but can't hang with us on offense.        In that third quarter the Cs seemed to have gotten their legs and showed the Magic what's in store for them. I saw a more crisp offense and a very physical Celtics defense. The Jay's put up only half their typical output and yet we still rolled by twenty points. Derrick White is seen above put on an incredible performance. I have loved Derrick since we traded for him and he's one of my favorite players. His shot from deep was locked in and his d...

Is the NBA season too long and grueling?

I write this knowing damn well that nothing will change, but I question whether the NBA season is too long and grueling.  The Boston Celtics played a total of 101 games in the 2023-24 season - the usual 82 regular season contests and 19 playoff games. Despite the physical toll on the players, the regular season can seem to be simply a never-ending prelude to the intensity of the post-season. As an example, Boston has played 47 games thus far this season, and the players already appear to be bored and itching for the playoffs . They still sit second in the East Standings (barely) and have a 5-5 record in the last 10 contests . But I understand their laid-back mindset and lethargic play of late. And The Green appear to relax at home - where they have a worse record than on the road . And the loss to Houston last night hurt a bit more - with the Rockets taking over third place in the standings from Boston. The NBA has become a League of wealth , with the 30 teams having a co...

Celtics reliance on 3-point barrage in post-season is folly

I did the math for you!  This season, the Boston Celtics score 1.14 points for every 3-pointer attempted . They score 1.13 points for every 2-pointer taken . They currently hit 3-pointers at a 37.9% clip - and 2-pointers at 56.3%. So that balances out. But those numbers are averages from 63 games in the regular season. Not from a 7-game series in the playoffs. What happens if those shots from the hinterlands are not falling? Here's the point! Boston ranks 25th in the League (22/game) in free throw attempts , but they rank 3rd in free throw accuracy (82.4%) . They don't go to the line often, but when they do - they put points on the board. Few fouls are given past the arc , but many occur when a player takes it into the paint or shoots from mid-range. Admittedly, the Boys-from-Beantown can hit the long ball, but reliance on that ability in the rigors of the playoffs can prove deadly. Living-and-dieing by the 3-pointer when each-and-every game is critical in the post-season ...

How President's social distancing extension affects NBA season

President Donald Trump announced yesterday that he is extending social distancing guidelines until April 30. On Sunday, however, Trump seemed to acknowledge that the spread of the virus had not slowed, at least not yet. He said that modeling shows that the peak of the death rate will likely hit in two weeks, but stressed that he hopes the country will be on its way to recovery by June 1. "We can expect that by June 1st, we will be well on our way to recovery, we think by June 1st. A lot of great things will be happening," he said. The extension may bode well for the health of Americans, but it certainly puts a damper on hopes for a re-start of the 2019-20 NBA season. The playoffs were originally scheduled to begin on April 18, 2020, with the Finals set for June 4. It is becoming very difficult to imagine playoffs-as-usual with thousands of spectators filling the stands anytime in April or May. And then the question is raised, what happens with the draft lottery and draf...
