Little not to like in Celtics blowout of Hornets

Where do I start? Let's go with Mfiondu Kabengele . His game isn't pretty, but this Florida State alum works his butt off out there and does a bit of everything. He finished with 10 points and three rebounds, hitting all four of his shots, including one 3-pointer. He may not have the athleticism of his fellow Florida State alum, Dave Cowens , but he plays as hard. Diving on the floor in the third quarter. trying to corral a loose ball got some applause from the crowd. The Celtics bench racked up 72 of Boston's 134 points , led by Sam Hauser's 14 points. He was 5-of-6 from the field and 4-of-5 on treys. His whole game, particularly his shooting, is a thing of beauty. Oh, and Hauser also finished with a team-high plus/minus of +26. This kid is a sniper. How about Malcolm Brogdon? He had a team-high nine assists, adding 11 points and five board s, just the type of balanced line we can expect from him this season. Noah Vonleh logged 13 minutes, grabbing a team-high nin...

Coming soon: Clash of the Titans at Celtics Training Camp

Boston Celtics Training Camp is weeks away, and a number of big men will clash to land roster spots behind Al Horford and Rob Williams .  Al and Rob Have proven themselves, and Grant Williams , at 6'6", has shown himself to be a reliable small-ball five. But Grant and four other "bigs" will be vying for minutes as the third and fourth centers.  Noah Vonleh, Luke Kornet and Bruno Coboclo are all on non-or-partially-guaranteed contracts and will need to prove themselves starting next month in order to make the cut. Mfiondu Kabengele is on a two-way contract, but he will also be battling for significant time at the 5-spot. One thing is guaranteed. Assuming Grant remains in Boston, we will almost certainly not see all three of Vonleh, Kornet and Coboclo on the 2022-23 Celtics roster. And there is always the chance that Kabengele may be promoted to the regular roster at some point should he outplay his competitors.  Expect an exciting Training Camp!

Back Up Bigs? Williams and Kabengele!

We know we need another big to insure that both RWill and Al get their rest and stay healthy so that Banner 18 can become a reality. What if we have the answer in summer league? Mfiondu Kabengele and Trevion Williams have both shown flashes of solid play. Question is will one or both of them fill up our empty roster spots? Or is there a trade in the works using that TPE before July 18th? Kanbengele has shown the ability to finish at the rim with authority. He has some decent offensive skills, can rebound, and passes the ball well. He can block shots and is showing that he wants one of these roster spots. If anything we will see him get invited to training camp and see how he fares. Then and only then will we see if he gets a spot on this roster geared towards Banner 18.   Trevion Williams has shown that he loves to pass. What's great about him at such a young age is his ability to know the game of basketball and see the floor. He's willing to work hard on D and honestly his po...

Matt Ryan and Mfiondu Kabengele shine again in 111-109 win over Bucks

The Boston Celtics scraped off the rust from their Summer League opening loss to the Heat and defeated the Milwaukee Bucks, 111-109 last night.  Matt Ryan and Mfiondu Kabengele both had their second consecutive solid games in a row. Ryan led the attack, pouring in 23 points, while Kabengele notched 15 points, 11 boards, four assists and two blocks. Brodric Thomas also came through with 14 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Sam Hauser, after a disappointing summer opener, found the range - scoring 12 points on 4-of-9 from the field and 3-of-7 on treys. As a team, Boston hit 47.3% of their field goals and 41.3% of their 3-pointers. One of the plays that stood out in this contest had Brodric Thomas performing a Dave Cowens flashback - chasing down a loose ball - diving to the floor to corral it - and calling a time out. That may have been overshadowed by Matt Ryan's game-ending 27' running, floating bank shot . A much better showing by the Celtics after t...
