Celtics Oshae Brissett heading for free agency

Oshae Brissett is reportedly declining his player option for the upcoming season and will test the market as a free agent. Brissett signed a 2-year deal last summer, with the s econd season set at $2.5 million and with a player option . He will be looking for a bigger role and more money . His minutes in Boston last season were the lowest (11.5 MPG) since his rookie season. Oshae Brissett is declining his $2.5M player option with the Boston Celtics for the 2024-25 season, a league source told @spotrac . Brissett will now be an unrestricted free agent this summer. — Keith Smith (@KeithSmithNBA) June 23, 2024 So now begins the off-season for the newly-crowned Champion Boston Celtics. Brissett's decision may be beneficial for a Boston team that is looking for low-cost bench players to complement its very-expensive core.

Celtics still get "rattled down the stretch"

Boston Celtics fans keep seeing it! Their team may be the best in the League, but t hey lose their poise at the end of close games. It happened once again in Boston's  OT loss (121-118) to the Charlotte Hornets . The Green were ahead by 11 points (100-89) at the 6:07 mark of the fourth quarter - and then the misses and miscues followed. Over the next six minutes, Kristaps Porzingis racked up three points, one rebound, one steal and one block - and was quickly yanked in favor of Oshae Brissett . Three seconds later, LaMelo Ball evened the score at 108-108 on a driving layup - assisted by former Celtic, Gordon Hayward . We can only speculate what may have happened if the "Lengthy Latvian" had remained in the game. As good at this Beantown group is, they still get ratted in the clutch , and that won't work in the post-season. The cure? A stabilizing influence (Horford?) and/or a last-second hero (White?) may have helped, but both were out of action. On to the next ga...

Oshae Brissett will bring energy and make some winning plays this season

Celtics sub, Oshae Brissett, definitely played a role in Boston's win over the Miami Heat. The energy he brings has to be contagious (per SI's Bobby Krivitsky) Tatum voiced that Brissett was "the sole reason that we got back into the game, and I told him that. He came right in, and we were kind of flat, and his energy, his offensive rebounding, giving us second and third chance opportunities was big. And that's his job. And for him to come do that, not play last game, and come in today and give us a spark to turn the game around was huge, and that's what I love about our team." There's also this beauty where Brissett blows by Kyle Lowry and knives his way to the rebound. Great job to quickly get the ball up and away from Lowry. He then spots a cutting Payton Pritchard, leading to a Sam Hauser three. #Celtics pic.twitter.com/HHRTjKWzTQ — Bobby Krivitsky (@BobbyKrivitsky) October 28, 2023 At 6'7" and 210 pounds , the tireless Toronto native can ...

Joe Mazzulla trying to balance wins and player development

Celtics coach, Joe Mazzulla wants to win every game. That won't happen, but achieving home-court advantage for all or most of the post-season clashes is a very real possibility. But there may be a cost. Once we get past the " Solid Six" of Tatum, Brown, Porzingis, Holiday, White and Horford, things thin out a bit. In Boston's 119-111 win over the rival Heat , the bench trio of Sam Hauser, Payton Pritchard and Oshae Brissett logged a combined 36.7 minutes of floor time, producing a total of eight points, six assists and three rebounds. Brissett saw the most time (14.0 minutes), scoring two points - but hauling down five boards. He was active out there, The 6'7" Canadian may see more time in the future. Luke Kornet was a DNP-CD and that may be indicative of things to come. The point is that Mazzulla may have to risk some losses while he develops the bench and see what other players might have the potential to produce in the post-season. Because right now t...
