  NBA TV analyst, Carlos Boozer , was the first I heard bring to our attention the amazing footwork that Jayson Tatum has developed. Boozer is right on. Tatum may end up at the all-time Celtics scorer, but he puts the ball in the hoop in so many ways. His footwork may already be in the league of Kevin McHale and Al Jefferson . But Boozer also stressed the beautiful 3-point shot displayed by Tatum. It is a joy to behold. Jayson is on a roll this season - as is his team. He has the tools and seasoning to rise to a true leadership role this season and lead his crew to Banner 18. All worries about the team's synergy with the arrival of Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday have been dispelled . This team looks potent.

 Celtics Head-Honcho, Danny Ainge had the 15th, 24th and 25th picks in the 2004 NBA draft - and initially appeared to have done quite well.  He took C/PF Al Jefferson at #15, and that worked out fairly well. Jefferson had the foot-work and inside moves to make a statement in the NBA - and eventually became the major trade piece that brought Kevin Garnett to Boston. In the latter portion of the first round, Danny went with toughness , taking Delonte West and Tony Allen. West showed promise but mental instability intervened, and the point guard moved around the NBA and (then-called) D-League - finally ending up as a homeless man on the streets. Tony had a decent career as a Celtic but became disenchanted with his role behind Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett - finally deciding to move on to Memphis in free agency - where he became known as the "Grindfather" for his dedicated defensive ability.  There are parallels between former- Celtic, Al Jefferson , and present Celtics center, Rob Williams. Larry Bird praised Al's footwork soon after Jefferson entered the League, and despite early injuries, the 6'10" center broke out in his third season in Boston .Al became the main prize for the Minnesota Timberwolves in a deal that sent Kevin Garnett to Boston . And now in his fourth season, Rob Williams, despite early injuries, is having a breakout season , and be assured there will be much interest in his services from rival GMs. My take on all of this would be that RWill is the most-physically-gifted big men to grace the center spot for Boston since Bill Russell . He wing span and athleticism are through the roof, and his basketball IQ has progressed greatly. It would take a massive return (a la Kevin Garnett) to move him out of Beantown . This is a wonderful exercise, as Celtics history is littered with incredible players, making for a lively argument with any C's fan. Most of you can recall what happened during the 2004 NBA draft. The Boston Celtics had the 15th, 24th and 25th picks and used them effectively. High-schooler and big man, Al Jefferson was snagged at number-15, and tough-nosed guards Tony Allen and Delonte West were taken with the 25th and 24th picks, respectively. Jefferson acquired most his fame as the major piece in Ainge acquiring Kevin Garnett from Minnesota, but he also had a solid 14-year career with his superior post moves and rebounding prowess. Allen also had a long NBA career, earning a Title ring with Boston in 2008. But it was in Memphis that he truly starred, earning the moniker of "Grindfather" with his relentless defensive efforts, while also being named to the All-Defensive First Team three times and All-Defensive Second Team three times. The quote in the title about rookie Carsen Edwards "looking like a lottery pick" is from former Celtic, Kendrick Perkins. Kendrick was fairly quiet during his tenure in Boston, but he has been expressing his views on the NBA quite a bit lately, and people are paying attention.
