Giving the Jazz some Blues

Cs played a decent first half but their defense was a few steps slow. We saw Garza and Queta both play rather well. I like how versatile our bigs are. Each guy offers a different feel to the game. Garza has that bull in a China shop feel but can shoot from deep and get inside. He's also not afraid to mix it up on the glass or defensively. Queta is clearly a rebounding savant and loves blocking shots. His foot work and offensive skills have grown immensely. It's almost like he's dribbling a soccer ball with how he moves his feet.       Hugo continues to impress on both ends of the floor. Knowing that he's only 19 is absolutely unreal with how his game is. Derrick White struggled in that first have but he picked it up in the second half. Unfortunately for JB his 30 pieces in a row ends... Yet pretty impressive to think he tied Larry Joe Bird. Pritch had a decent game and has become more solid each and every night. Simons off the bench has proven to...

A bit more on why I am high on Hugo Gonzalez

Granted, the Celtics Hugo Gonzalez is not positioned high in the Rookie of the Year rankings , but he is looking like a steal as the 28th-overall pick in this year's draft. And he is only logging 14.8 minuted per game thus far. The kid has shown that he is savvy, skilled, patient and fiery - on both offense and defense. Great job by Bras Stevens grabbing "The Spaniard" towards the end of the first round. Here is another qualified opinion of Hugo Gonzalez ( per NY Times Sam Vencenie ): "The last player I want to highlight briefly is Hugo Gonzalez, whose infectious energy has helped the Boston Celtics off the bench in a big way. Few players bring the motor and hustle that Gonzalez does every time he takes the court. He’s a live wire of loose ball dives and activity, using his nose for the ball to make an impact. The Celtics are beating their opponents by a preposterous 20.1 points per 100 possessions in the 354 minutes that he’s played, undeniably a noisy stat influ...

Hugo Gonzalez looking like a keeper for Boston Celtics

Hugo Gonzalez is quietly making an impression on his coach, Joe Mazzulla. In last night's loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, he was on the court for 30-plus minutes and led his team in plus/minus with a +3. The rookie contributed 13 points, six boards, three assists and two steals. "The Spaniard" is in fourth place in plus/minus this season ( per NBA.com's John Schuhmann ): "The Celtics have still outscored their opponents by 17.2 points per 100 possessions with González on the floor. That’s  the fourth-best on-court mark   among 332 players who’ve averaged at least 10 minutes in 15 games or more. (He’s the only player in the top seven who’s not on the Thunder.)" The kid is not particularly flashy but he is relentless on defense and opportunistic on offense. Coming into the League, Hugo was known for his defense, but his offense is better than advertised. He finds ways to score simply by being in the right place at the right time. As I recently wrote , Gon...

On the road again

Cs open with a nice 9-1 run here in Portland. Cs need to continue on this path, push the pace and lock in defensively. I wish we were able to see Jrue tonight. I truly adore how that man plays this beautiful game of basketball. Cs are in for a fight tonight. These Blazers have a few solid pieces. JB has played his butt off so far. Cs have hit some rough patches but are bouncing right back. Today has a feel that it could be a barn burner.      JB is playing at an MVP level and deserves more love for it. He's turned what should have been a transition year, into a year we can actually compete in. We are so definitely making noise in this year's playoffs. Queta out here doing the two step at the club with that scoring move right there. Love this kid and how far he's come. JB ends the half with an exceptional three off the handle. Now that was freaking beautiful!      Cs are in a nice and tuck third quarter, I really need Derrick White to kn...

What Celtics player will morph into that 5th starter ?

Right now, the four consistent Celtics starters have been Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, Payton Pritchard and Neemias Queta. Jordan Walsh and Josh Minott have started 17 and 10 games, respectively, but the season is still relatively young. When Jayson Tatum returns, either this season or next , he obviously will be that fifth starter, and if the roster remains quite the same, a player that latches on to that 5th position this season would most-likely come off the bench as the 6th man come the 2026-27 campaign . Who else may fill that role, other than Walsh and Minott? Hugo Gonzalez comes to mind. The rookie is still only 19 years old and showing that he belongs in the NBA. If "The Spaniard" continues to improve this season, he possibly could fit that 5th-man role. Anfernee Simons currently has logged the 5th-most minutes (23.7 MPG) , but he may be going elsewhere - and it is doubtful that he would bump White or Pritchard from the starting lineup. How about Sam Hauser ? H...

Racing into Indiana

Queta with an excellent block on one end and a dunk on the other. The Pacers are shooting the lights out and it feels like Mondays game. Cs have their work cutout for them yet again. Cs have made some solid plays offensively but their defense needs work. What a horrendous first quarter, they better wakeup or are going to get crushed. Cs come out here in the second and are finally playing basketball.      Cs only trail by five so they have a decent shot at completing this early comeback. Given how poorly they started, I have a feeling they are going to comeback and win. There's plenty of time left here in the second to do so. Although when Derrick White starts missing free throws it gets me worried. Cs have the ball only down one. JB to the line and we have the lead. Derrick White scores with the midrange jumper. Cs are up by five and the Pacers need a timeout.       That first half by Payton Pritchard was absolutely spectacular. JB...

One More Before Xmas

Cs ran a great set to open up the scoring tonight. Yet the Pacers have come to play despite their terrible record. Cs are trailing and is very disappointing to watch given I expect more from them. It's gonna take effort on D to get back in this game. Get a hand in the shooters faces and make a stop. Simons and Hauser with big buckets to cut into this lead. DWhite for three! Nice run by the Cs here to get back in the game.       This second quarter isn't going well at all. Cs trail by fifteen and I don't think they were ready for tonight. They should be ashamed of themselves tonight and looks like a loss. There is no flow on offense and the D has been suspect. Cs will need to make a run before the half to have a shot in the second half. No ball movement and it's a lot of one on one. Timeout by the Cs as this game gets worse. If really feels like a long night.       Cs have clawed their way back and only trail by six. Will they ...

North of the border part duex

Cs are trailing the Raptors in the standings but with a win they will surpass them..despite being shorthanded these Celtics have stepped up to this point. Everyone who has stepped on the floor has made an impact. Derrick White has been solid after a heck of a game last night. Nice to see Luka Garza getting some action tonight. Hugo continues to show he's going to be a solid NBA player. I think he's going to be a guy on our next championship team.       PP has been exceptional tonight and how about Queta with double digits in points. Simons has played a really solid role tonight. I mean there are times where this team looks off, but tonight they look good. It's an impressive feat given no JB tonight and they are on the second night of a back to back. The lead here in the fourth is eight and Joe calls a timeout. A very wise timeout in my opinion. Especially because you don't want the Raptors to get any momentum.       Cs will hav...

The Heat Is On...

It was so nice getting to see and listen to IT during the pregame. You forget how great he was in a Celtics uniform. It's too bad he dealt with some crappy injuries. It's what has shortened his career, but he will always be held in high regard here in Boston. Time for the Celtics to get it going after losing their past two games. Expect JB to have a quality game and light em up. Miami is coming off a game last night. So if the Cs jump on em early they may fold. It would be wise for the Cs to get this game over sooner than later. Especially given we will be in Toronto tomorrow night.       Cs are wearing the gold and white jerseys not my favorite honestly. Cs are running off the rebound and I'm all for it. Cs trail early on but I don't expect it to last. Queta with the spin and score that was pure beauty. Looking like a dancer out there with that foot work. Queta telling the Heat players return to sender! He's a stud at blocking shots. His improve...

1 vs 3 in the East

JB scores the first bucket of the game and we are ready to go at the Pistons. Cs will have their work cut out for them tonight. This Pistons team is legit. PP gets on the board and should be at the line. NBA refs are the worst and close behind them are NFL refs. PP with back to back threes! Maybe he's gonna go off tonight, and I'm all for it. It's going to need to be a team effort if the Cs want to spring the upset. Who will be the X Factor tonight? Derrick White anyone?!      Cs are down five and Joe calls a timeout, let's hope it helps. PP with a sweet shot off the timeout. Prayers for Ed Lacerte who has leukemia. JB attacking Cade and looking for the And One. JB scores again! JB with an incredible fall away jumper! That shot was as cool as the other side of the pillow. Man is JB having himself quite the game and season! After trailing, the Cs have grabbed a six point lead. Queta has done an excellent job on the glass tonight. Hugo for three! Cs by n...

Celtics Jaylen Brown rises to top-5 in MVP race

Let's be frank! Jaylen Brown now sits in fifth  place in the NBA KIA MVP race , but his chances to win the prize at the end of the season are slim indeed . No member of the Celtics has won the award since Larry Bird did it (for the third time) in the 1985-86 season. And international players have won the prize in the last seven seasons _something which may not change with the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Shea Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid still battling for the trophy . Still, Jaylen Brown has been true to his word about replacing Jayson Tatum as leader of "The Green" - at least until Tatum returns.  Jaylen, this season, is averaging a team-high 33.5 minutes per game, 29.1 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 4.8 APG, 1.1 SPG and a whopping 15.6 2-point shot attempts per contest . He is taking the mid-range game seriously and driving to the hoop constantly.  The Celtics are currently sitting at number-3 in the Eastern Standings with a 15-10 record , which is somew...

No Giannis No Good

Celtics are in Milwaukee tonight, looking to enhance their win streak. There is no Giannis and the Cs should be able to flex on em tonight. JB will need to come out tonight and set the tone on both ends. PP and JB both are in the books. Good start for both of them tonight! Very odd not seeing Giannis out here tonight. If Giannis leaves this team will be absolutely awful.       The Celtics have come out and looked pretty efficient on offense. Sam is ice cold to start tonight. We need him to start hitting those shots if we want to sustain this lead. Cs have allowed the Bucks back into this game. Timeout by Joe and hopefully they respond. JB had himself quite the first quarter with thirteen points.  He's been playing like an MVP! I love how he is leading this team. Derrick White is starting to heat up here tonight.       Hugo with the hustle play that leads to Jordan scoring. Kudos to Jordan tonight for hustling on every play...

North of the Border

Cs are in Toronto for a Sunday afternoon game. Cs will need to do all the little things if they want to continue playing winning basketball. The Raptors floor is a throwback to their original logo. Pretty cool logo if you ask me. Cs get on the board first as DWhite scores from the midrange. DWhite hits the first three of the game! Are we going to see a thirty piece from DWhite? That would be spectacular if we do! JB crashing the glass and we are up seven early. I like the way the Cs are playing today let's keep it up.       Cs are going to need to push this pace and keep the Raptors on their heels. Love the Cs getting extra offensive possessions leading to a DWhite three! JB with the middle and it didn't look good but still hit the bottom of the net. Cs should be up by more than ten right now. It's crazy to me some of the games we have lost this season and are yet right there in the East. I mean we could be in first overall. I will say those earl...

Frauds vs the Cs

Cs welcome the biggest frauds in all of sports to the Garden. Why frauds, because they stole five titles from Minnesota and won that Disney production of a bubble title. In all reality the Cs have 18 and the Fakers have 12. When you actuall look at the numbers in both the regular season and the playoffs the Cs own these guys. Celtics have never been gifted players like the Lakers. Cs have always had to do things the right way. While the Lakers have been gifted players like Luka and Pau. Let's also not forget all the help the NBA and their refs have given them over the years.       Luka is out for personal reasons and my guess is he's afraid to have JB shut him down. No Leflop either who has always been weak when it comes to playing in Boston. Cs are rocking their traditional home uniforms tonight. Walsh with the rebound on one end and a three on the other. White and Queta are developing quite a bond on those alley oops. Walsh is dogging Reeves an...

Jordan Walsh: "Late Bloomer" is on a roll

Jordan Walsh's first two seasons in the NBA with the Boston Celtics did not bode well for his career in the Big League. Over 61 games in the 2-year span, he averaged only 8.5 minutes per game and his accuracy from deep - mid-=range and free throw line did not bring back memories of Larry Bird . But the kid, now 21 years old, has found his way. This season he is hitting on 56% from deep - 39% on his treys - and 80% from the charity stripe. And he just keeps making hustle plays, on both offense and defense. Listed at 6'6"/6'7" and 205 pounds , his 7'3" wingspan becomes very apparent on his offensive rebounds, putbacks, blocked shots and deflections.  But beyond his God/Nature-given tools , Walsh's intensity, desire and fire are unequaled. His defense kept him in games for his first two seasons, but now he has become a legitimate 2-way player . Jordan Walsh 22 PTS, 7 REB, 3 AST, 2 STL, 1 BLK, 8/8 FG, 1/1 3FG, 103.4% TS vs Wizards https://t.co/6F...

Ballin in Washington

Cs are short handed in Washington with no JB, but we are playing tomorrow night vs the Fakers. Queta the Pride of Portugal is having himself one heck of a first quarter. The way in which Queta has improved this season gives me hope that his ceiling is high. Cs will need to address the bigs in the off season but Queta is a huge part of the future. I absolutely love watching him play the game of basketball.       DWhite has shown that even without JB he can carry the load on offense. He's had an up and down season but he's slowly breaking out and showing us who he is. An All Star caliber player who is one of my favorite all time Celtics. Yeah that's right I said it. His defense this season has been exceptional. Did we expect anything less??? Offensively he's finding that form and I tell you this watch out folks. Once he finds his stroke the Cs will be in the top four in the East.       Jordan Walsh has shown he can score when ne...

Yuck its the Knicks

How about the other night in Cleveland folks, PP went off for 40 points and JB had a triple double. Cs had built up quite the nice lead yet the game came down to the wire. In today's NBA no lead is ever safe. The way in which PP played was damn near incredible. That young man is capable of doing this on a regular basis. Tonight the Cs welcome the Knicks and their star flopper Brunson. I have no respect for him and can't stand watching him.       Cs are off to a slow start but we get a Queta jam to get the crowd going. What a terrible underwhelming start tonight. They better pick it up because I can't stand the Knicks. The first quarter was a bit of a disaster given how poorly the Celtics played. The Celtics redeemed themselves in the second led by JB playing like the Finals MVP he is. He brought it to the Knicks and they had zero answers. Hugo offered a spark out there and DWhite hit a few shots. Overall they pushed the ball on turnovers and miss...
