How does Brad Stevens' one-season remake of Celtics ravaged roster rank?

In the history of the Boston Celtics, Red Auerbach's acquisition of Bill Russell and Larry Bird have to rank at the very-top of "The Green's" major moves. Add in maneuvering to get Robert Parish and Kevin McHale and Danny Ainge's dealing to get The Jay Team. But I still can't believe how Brad Stevens quickly rebuilt his team when forced to shed the roster of Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford, Jrue Holiday and Luke Kornet - while working to lessen the damage of losing his beast player, Jayson Tatum , to injury. If Stevens is not in serious conversation as Exec of The Year , I will continue to feel the Celtics tend to be ignored at award time. And frankly, his belief in Joe Mazzulla to orchestrate the regular season with a ravaged roster enters into this discussion.  The Russell, Bird, Parish, McHale and Jay Team acquisitions were successful, long-term moves . Ditto on Stevens' masterful maneuvering to cutting costs drastically, while maintaining a trul...

Friday Night Feast

How about the performance from this entire Celtics team. Everyone who entered the game scored. Even the bench guys who very rarely play. Talk about offensive efficiency. Tonight was Vucs coming out party and why the Cs traded for him. He led the way with along with JB scoring 28 points. I think anyone who has watched Vuc over the years knows how good he is. The man is a walking double double and doesn't take games off for load management. It was nice seeing him in the post but man he lit it up from deep. His rebounding is exceptional and he fits this team really well. He's a guy Brad has always coveted and could have a nice run here in Boston.       JB has simply been one of the top players in the entire NBA. He's honestly the best two way player in the game. I always knew JB was going to be good the moment we drafted him. There was always a reason why Danny drafted him and Brad wanted him. What we are seeing this season is a masterclass in great...

Cs Set in the Valley of the Sun

Cs have trailed the Suns for most of this first half. I mean we have no JB but we still should beat this Suns team. I really like how PP and Sam have been shooting lately. They will be key players as we grind out the rest of the regular season. Joe has really learned who plays well together and every now and then he gets someone in there who hasn't played a while and they Excell. I've seen a lot of growth in Joe's coaching this season. Especially on the defensive end. He should be Coach of the Year. If he's not shame on the NBA.       Derrick White has been extremely efficient on the offensive end tonight. His ability to see the floor and find guys is a master class. The way he rebounds for a guard is second to none. Since the day he was traded here he's become and is one of my favorite players. Honestly he's a complete player who never gets the recognition he deserves. He's the ultimate Celtics and would be on any iteration of the Celtics ...

SATISFYING win on the road for Celtics over Lakers

"SATISFYING" ? You bet!  Westt Coast versus East Coast. Land of sunshine and warmth against a lanscape being blanketed in snow as I write this, A team that seems to have stars drooling to be there pitted against a franchise that almost always comes through via intelligence, strategy and great decisions . The LA Lakers always seem to sign superstars, in large part because of the lights, the stars of the big-and-small screens and the chance for film credits of their own. Lebron James and Luka Doncic were the two latest star additions on the court last night when Jaylen Brown, Payton Pritchard and a cast of able supporters walked away with the victory. In Los Angeles, it started with Wilt Chamberlain heading to the City of Angels. And he was followed by Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Shaquille O'Neal and Pau Gasol . Quite a cast. And meanwhile, Red Auerbach, Danny Ainge and Brad Stevens were wheeling and dealing for Bill Russell, John Havlicek, JoJo White, Dave Cowens, Larry B...

No Rivalry Here

How about them Celtics?!! Going into the so called Lions Den in LA and kicking their butts! What makes it great is they were honoring Pat the Rat Riley. Cs are a much better team than the Lakers this season. Historically the Celtics are a better team than the Lakers. Just go and study the numbers. Seems like a one sided rivalry to me! Celtics have and will always be the greatest NBA Franchise of all time.       Payton Pritchard was on fire last night, he made Austin Reaves look like a fool on D. Pritch was lethal from beyond the arc and had his fair share of points in the post. I love when he uses his change of pace out there. Whether to score or throw off the defender. He isn't afraid to grab rebounds and finds his teammates where they can score. Pritch has been an exceptional player since he was drafted by the Celtics. One of my favorite players to watch and wrote about. I mean he's a cold blooded assasin! Coming off the bench is where he flour...

Back at it

Cs go into Golden State and lay the hammer to em. Nice to see old pals Al Horford and Kristaps Porzingis. Memories of one title but should have been two. JB continues his MVP like play having a triple double. I'm not a huge stat guy but damn those numbers he put up were pretty sweet. Cs looked primed to be a top seed in the East. The only team in the East they are trailing is the Pistons. Not only record wise but overall. That Pistons team is nice and Cade is a baller.       Ron Harper Jr has and is making the most out of his opportunity with the Celtics. He's shown that he has a spot in this league and more importantly as a Celtic. Kid can shoot and loves to play D. Joe has found the right spots with him and it's paid off. PP has been thriving coming off the bench these past few games. He just has that it factor off the bench and we are seeing him at his best. Everyone who entered the game made a solid impact. I don't do that plus minus crap I d...

NBA fans, welcome to tanking season

Now it starts. It is NBA All-Star weekend as I write this, and some inferior teams have their focus on losing enough games to "earn" a high lottery pick . Danny Ainge , never one to previously tank as Head Honcho of the Boston Celtics, and his Utah Jazz took a half-million-dollar  hit for failing to play his stars in the final period of two close games. Unnecessarily resting star players has been a major issue in the League this season, and Adam Silver has decided to make teams pay for such a practice. Silver stated that such behavior "undermines the foundation of NBA compeition" . That may be so, but what may eventually be undermined might be the popularity of the League itself - and the massive amount of money it acquires.  The blatent "losing to gain a high draft position" needs to stop , but large fines are hardly felt by the offending teams. Resting star players to avoid injuries is one thing, but benching them after overstating the seriousness ...

Baylor Scheierman continues to start - and shine

Celtics sophomore, Baylor Scheierman , seems to be getting a lot of attention from his coach, Joe Mazzulla . In last night's win over the Chicago Bulls , Scheierman started his 8th contest of the season and contributed 10 points, five boards, one assist and one steal. The 6'6" shooting guard hit 2-of-7 from the fieeld and 2-of-5 from deep . Baylor is averaging 45% on field goals for the season and 39% on threes . He has started 4-of-the-last five games - four of them wins. His floor time contunes to rise. Scheierman's 4-year contract at an average of $3.2 million per year is fully guaranteed through the 2028 season - with team options for 2026-27 (already exercised by Celtics) and 2027-28. He looks to be a  "keeper" for Brad Stevens.

All Star Break Is Near

While he may have doubts which is understandable getting JT back will put us into a great spot. Adding an MVP type player to a team with an MVP player plus this roster could be a recipe for success. JB and JT will be stronger together than apart. The rest of the NBA is shaking in their kicks. If JT is ready and hitting on all cylinders I can't see why we won't make a nice long run in the playoffs. Tonight we welcome the Bulls right before we head into All Star Break. With a win the Cs will be the second seed in the East. Amazing for a team who most said would be in the lottery.       A first quarter that showed us how damn good JB is! He was en feugo and yet cool as the other side of the pillow! He was hitting from deep and his patented midrange. Nice to see Sam get a few shots in. Vuc has some shifty post moves and they could be very valuable. Queta was solid per usual grabbing boards and scoring inside. He has learned the game and puts it into ...

Knicks dominate Celtics and get the win

Boston Celtics versus New York Knicks. Baylor Scheierman and Luka Garza in the starting unit, along with Neemias Queta, Derrick White and Jaylen Brown. Boston starts 0-5 on their shooting. Scheierman breaks the ice with two free throws. Baylor looks to be a keeper for Brad Stevens. With both Payton Pritchard and Nikola Vucevic coming off the bench, it appears Joe Mazzulla is still experimenting to find a solid 8-9-man rotation for the second half of the season and playoffs. Celtics hitting 1-of-7 on the long ball - not a good sign. Then it''s "Vooch" with a "3", But Boston is only 2-of-12 on threes. It's 35-24 in favor of NY at the end of the first quarter. Mazzulla once again goes to his 2-big combo of Queta and Vucevic for quarter #2, but Vooch goes out quickly with his 3rd foul. Scheierman with six boards and five assists midway through the second quarter. He can do a lot out there. Baylor is having a great game. Now up to eight rebounds and five ass...

Back Home

Cs could not have played worse in this first half. So many missed shots and way too many turnovers. You wait all day to see them ball and they come out flat. The only upside is it can't get any worse. Cs will need a huge third quarter to get back into this game. It's going to start on the defensive end. Let's see if they have it in them especially since Superbowl Sunday they will welcome the Knicks.       JB starts the third getting to the cup for the And One opportunity. JB from the midrange and he's heating up. He's been the only guy who looks like he's ready to play. Cs made a little headway only to get punched in the mouth. JB gets no love from the refs at all. Garza and Queta have been busy with this two big lineup. Huge shot from Sam and that's his first bucket of the game. Crazy especially since we are into the third. Cs need a run here or the fourth is not gonna be fun.       PP with the three, followed by DWhite for t...

Nikola Vucevic's unmentioned vital quality as newest Celtic

Newest Celtic, Nikola Vucevic comes to the Boston Celtics a a big man who can score - inside and out, control the boards - and be a major "plus" for Joe Mazzulla , particularly in the post-season. But what we have not heard yet is whether or not he is a man of high character. That question may have been answered by long-time Chicago sports writer, K. C. Johnson . And Mr. Johnson's analysis of Boston's new center is all positive (via "X") Post See new posts Conversation K.C. Johnson @KCJHoop I was told this deal (for Nikola Vucevic) was discussed earlier in season but didn’t gain much traction. Deadlines have a way of creating action . . . Bulls are busy. And on a personal note: Happy for Vooch to chase a title but will miss covering him. As accessible and professional as they get "As accessible and professional as they get" . That suggests that "Vooch" is an NBA player of high character - a quality looked for by most League teams, ...
