  Blake Griffin isn't ready for the rocking chair - not yet, anyway. He had solid stats (8/5/1/1/1) in Boston's win over the Hawks last night in 15 minutes of action . His potential post-season role is still a mystery, but it appears he could be a secret waepon for Joe Mazzulla . I persist in posting per-36-minutes stats , despite some flak for doing to, because it can reveal a player's present ceiling - given ample floor time. Here they are for Blake: 11.4 points - 8.6 rebounds - 3.4 assists - 0.9 steals - .495 FG - .365 3s His role and floor time in the post-season will depend on the health of Rob Williams and Al Horford , but even with both centers at full health, fans may see more of Griffin when the playoffs are underway. So, the rocking chair can go back in the basement for now. The 6-time All-Star will turn 34 in a few days , and he has been a perfect role player for the Celtics. That role may be about to expand.

  First Quarter Moments  Tatum and Smart both are hitting threes early on. The defense looks like absolute garbage to start. Marcus and Al with back to back threes. JT with a huge jam! JT with a huge three! Dude is balling early on! JT is straight fire to start tonight. If he stays on this pace we are looking at a 40/50 piece. Tonight's defense has been absolutely awful. Things need to be tightened up, because you can't play this kind of weak defense. The Hawks, are getting way too many open shots tonight. C's need to get their hands up and toughen up out there. Way too loose out there, it's unacceptable to watch.  Tonight's first quarter, has been the worst defensive performance I've seen in a while. Let's hope the C's can man up over the next few quarters. I picked up a 3-month membership at Anytime Fitness (ATF), Pawleys Island, South Carolina after doing some research.  My 31 years in the fitness field helped me find the (near)-perfect gym, not only for seniors - just just about anyone. Why? 1.) It's close. Only a 4-minute drive with busy traffic makes it much tougher to talk my self out of going. 2.) It's complete. My goals are to regain strength and muscle lost when I was told to stop all exercise prior to an aortic heart valve replacement. This gym has everything I need for those goals. 3.) No duct tape. What the Hell does that mean? Duct tape on the machine and bench pads is a sign of a gym heading downhill. This gym has none. 4.) No pool. Pools take up space - are a pain-in-the-ass to maintain - smell of chlorine - and except for lap swimming, are not effective producers of a fit physique. 5.) No group fitness space. This gym got rid of it. Good move. I won't apologize to the aerobics devotees. 6.) Courteous me...

  Gyms are intimidating to seniors - prove you belong As I write this, my wife, Linda, and I are spending the winter in South Carolina as I approach my  74th birthday . Our permanent home is in the  North Country of New Hampshire , but it is too damn cold to stay there. The place is huge, but I could hardly move in there without getting bumped.  The Boston Celtics can no longer rest on their laurels and keep that 15th roster slot unoccupied . The Milwaukee Bucks adding veteran Goran Dragic to the mix changes much. Dragic may be heading to the autumn of his career but he has the ability to cause The Green some signifiant headaches in the post-season.  Tough to imagine the Boston Celtics without Derrick White on the roster this season. We see it on social media - raves about the play of  Derrick White. He came from the Spurs in a trade as a supposed bench player, but there are indications that he could thrive with an increased role. The 6'4" combo guard is top-5 on the team this season in six categories - minutes, points, assists, 3-point pecentage, steals and blocks . He is second to only Rob Williams in blocks per game at 0.9 BPG. And by the way, he was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week on February 13, 2023 when he took over for Marcus Smart when The Wolverine was out with an injury. During that week, he averaged 24.5 points, 4.8 boards and 7.5 assists. Hardly the stuff of a guy destined for a lot of pine splinters.
