Blake Griffin isn't ready for the rocking chair - not yet, anyway. He had solid stats (8/5/1/1/1) in Boston's win over the Hawks last night in 15 minutes of action. His potential post-season role is still a mystery, but it appears he could be a secret waepon for Joe Mazzulla.
I persist in posting per-36-minutes stats, despite some flak for doing to, because it can reveal a player's present ceiling - given ample floor time. Here they are for Blake:
11.4 points - 8.6 rebounds - 3.4 assists - 0.9 steals - .495 FG - .365 3s
His role and floor time in the post-season will depend on the health of Rob Williams and Al Horford, but even with both centers at full health, fans may see more of Griffin when the playoffs are underway. So, the rocking chair can go back in the basement for now. The 6-time All-Star will turn 34 in a few days, and he has been a perfect role player for the Celtics. That role may be about to expand.
