Tough to imagine the Boston Celtics without Derrick White on the roster this season. We see it on social media - raves about the play of Derrick White. He came from the Spurs in a trade as a supposed bench player, but there are indications that he could thrive with an increased role.
The 6'4" combo guard is top-5 on the team this season in six categories - minutes, points, assists, 3-point pecentage, steals and blocks. He is second to only Rob Williams in blocks per game at 0.9 BPG. And by the way, he was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week on February 13, 2023 when he took over for Marcus Smart when The Wolverine was out with an injury. During that week, he averaged 24.5 points, 4.8 boards and 7.5 assists. Hardly the stuff of a guy destined for a lot of pine splinters.
Derrick White on inconsistent role closing games:

I’m playing basketball, I’m blessed. I’m just trying to have the right perspective on things.
Even if I’m off the court, just be a good teammate and trust whoever’s out there is going to help us win. pic.twitter.com/lAXa372I2s
Derrick plays at a fast pace and drives opponents nuts on both ends. And he just exudes "high character". Celtics fans appear to like this young man, and I include myself in that group. Bench? Starter? Finisher? He suggests it doesn't matter to him, but I envision a bigger role during the stretch run and post season.
Me when the Celtics traded for him: Who is Derrick White?

One year later: Derrick White is one of my favorite current Celtics players and will probably enter my all time top 20 favorite Celtics players by the end of the playoffs pic.twitter.com/aLvhc2ui8I
