Still irked at Irving? Then read this!

Let's dive into a subject that may trigger plenty of responses from Celtics fans. How many Celtics fans said pre trade, even if Kyrie was available, that you wouldn't want him in Green . This writer felt that way originally. Ultimately when the trade went down Celtics fans were either pleased with what Danny did, or pissed. Giving up a player like Isaiah Thomas, who gave his heart and soul to Celtics fans, seemed wrong.      Given Kyrie's talent on the court you have to make this trade, right?? At first it seemed it could be a great fit. He wanted to be a leader and step out of Lebron's shadow. The Celtics team he stepped into was primed for that. The question is, does a player's talent on the court out-weigh the rest? What Celtics fans saw off the court started to become dicey.       Celtics fans all remember, during a season ticket holders event, when he said, if you will have me I'd like to re-sign here. He also talked about wan...

Jayson Tatum with an Ojeleye-like physique could be scary

Building physiques for close to 30 years via my business, Advanced Fitness Systems , forces me to temper expectations of Jayson Tatum this season with his newly-acquired - and jacked - body . Photos can lie, and I will wait to see what his listed weight is heading into training camp. But with that aside, Jayson with a physique resembling that of former-Celtic, Semi Ojeleye , would be scary for the rest of the League.  Last season, Tatum was listed at 6'8" and 210 pounds . An additional 10 pounds of muscle would put him at 220, and I doubt we would see any more than that. I would expect a weigh-in between 215 and 218 pounds . That may be enough because anyone that strength trains on a regular basis knows that strength arrives before muscle , and additional strength would allow Jayson to strongly finish at the rim, either scoring the hoop or picking up fouls and getting to the line more often. PSA from Tatum Train, Inc: Hide ya favorite players and your wives. First-team Tat...

Changing of the guards: Brian Shaw's contract issue

How many Celtics fans remember this? Brian   Shaw and Reggie Lewis, possibly the future of the Celtics back court in the the early 90s. They had Dee Brown and Kevin Gamble, both who showed talent, plus the Big 3 still giving their all despite getting up there in age, plus injuries.       We all remember Brian Shaw for his contract issues with the Celtics . Signing with the good guys, then Roma, and again with the Celtics. This contract case is used now, even today, as legal precedent. What if he hadn't pulled this crap? We all know he was eventually traded to the Heat for Sherman Douglas, who we all know Larry Bird loved. Just imagine if he stayed and other pieces fell into place.       Would a youthful core of Shaw, Gamble, Brown and Reggie have led to opportunities for those 90s teams to sustain competitiveness as each member of the Big 3 gracefully retired or moved on? Shaw's ability to play both guard positions m...

Brief stays for Tacko and Tremont in Boston: The long-and-short of it

Tacko Fall went undrafted in the 2019 NBA draft and Tremont Waters went in the second round, 51st overall. Tacko, at 7'5" and Tremont at 5'10" had a tough climb from the start, particularly with Boston Celtics. Coach, Brad Stevens,  having a clear preference for mid-sized wings, and that restriction alone meant neither player would last long in Beantown. Tacko was simply too big and slow for today's NBA game, whereas he may have had a much-easier time making it a few decades ago. Conversely, Waters, at 175 pounds, faced constant mismatches defending bigger players. Wish he Tacko) played somewhere between 1980 and 2000. Would've had a successful and impactful career! — Frosty Bias (@frostybias) September 1, 2021 That, unfortunately for Tacko and Tremont, is the long-and-short of it - too much of an uphill climb with size-related issues. Fall is off to join the Cleveland Cavaliers, and Waters remains a free agent. Best wishes go with both of them

Tacko's Time in Boston is done - off to Cleveland

Tacko Fall was simply a victim of time and place . The lovable, 7'5" big man seemed to be in the wrong era - and Boston was not the ideal landing spot for him. But he will be missed. I’m very happy for Tacko. I hope he gets some consistent minutes! — Frosty Bias (@frostybias) September 1, 2021 Gong undrafted in the 2019 NBA draft, Danny Ainge gave Tacko a shot as a two-way player, but he proved too slow for Brad Stevens' switching defensive schemes , and his lack of a shot from any distance meant he would not last in Beantown. The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to a one-year, non-guaranteed deal with 7-foot-5 center Tacko Fall, agents Bill Duffy and Justin Haynes of @BDA_Sports told @TheAthletic @Stadium . Fall played his first two NBA seasons in Boston. — Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) September 1, 2021 So the Senegalese native   will get a second shot at playing time in Cleveland. We can expect a warm welcome for him upon his return to TD Garden with the Cavalie...

Bruno Fernando: Give him a shot

Bruno Fernando is an unknown for Celtics fans except for a small taste in Summer League. A player like Bruno, who was willing to play in the G League, shows character and willingness to stay and contribute in the NBA.       For this writer, let's look at what he said about KG. “That’s a no-brainer,” Fernando said, when asked about Boston greats he admires. “Kevin Garnett. That’s my favorite player of all the time. I’ve always looked up to him, I remember my days of high school, my days of college, you know I was watching a lot of his highlights.” With that quote, let's see what he can offer over guys like Grant Williams or Jabari Parker .  If Bruno can come in off the bench and bring even a fraction of KGs intensity, Celtics fans may have a winner on hand. He could be the guy who comes in and spells Al, Enes, or RW. If he truly models his game after KG, let's hope he can D up and rebound like him! The offense will eventually come.  ...

Constructing the best NBA team ever, the 1986 Champion Celtics

Building the 1986 Champion Celtics team was Red Auerbach at his very best. Grabbing Larry Bird as a junior-eligible out of Indiana State in the 1978 NBA draft meant Larry would not be coming to Boston for a year - but the wait proved worth the move. The Robert Parish/Kevin McHale heist from the Warriors in 1980 stands in the top-3 exploits by the Redhead, in contention with acquiring Bill Russell and Bird . Effectively bringing in Parish and McHale for a guy that earned the name, Joe Barely Cares (Joe Barry Carroll) tells the tale . Danny Ainge came on board via the 1981 draft, where Red chose him with the 31st overall pick . Dennis Johnson joined the Celtics when he was brought in via a trade of Bird's drinking buddy, Rick Robey , to the Phoenix Suns. They were so good they often toyed with opponents. They had it all - talent, size, rebounding, shooting, fast breaks, defense, team play, character, facilitation, synergy. https://t.co/r2cNiQDdlI — Tom Lane (@CelticsSentinel...
