Philadelphia 76'ers getting criticism from Philly media and Charles Barkley

The Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey thinks his 76'ers team may be overhyped. NBA TV's Charles Barkley had previously picked Philly to go to the Finals this season, but I heard him this morning state that they "got no chance" of getting to the Finals (per Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey):

So far, (Ben) Simmons has only attempted two three-pointers in 15 games played and foul shooting still remains an Achilles’ heel. He’s shooting just 58.3% from the free-throw line.

Meanwhile, only two of Embiid’s 11 shots during his scoreless outing Monday against the Toronto Raptors came in the paint.

So at least for now, the two are kind of the same players they were in seasons past.

In a previous NBA TV broadcast last May, Sir Charles had some thoughts on Philly's star center, Joel Embiid:

“He walks around like he’s on his death bed,” Barkley said. “He drains the energy out of that team... As a star player, you can never show weakness.”

Barkley feels Embiid doesn't play hard enough, and The Inquirer's Keith Pompey feels the Sixers still don't have a consistent 3-point shooter or closer (per Keith Pompey):

They’ll win a lot of games based on their talented starting lineup. Yet, at the same time, they still don’t have the closer or consistent three-point shooter to make people stop thinking about the departed Jimmy Butler and JJ Redick.

The Sixers are good. But, talent-wise, they might not be as good as they were at the conclusion of last season.

Barkley and Pompey are not alone. Many NBA fans feel there is something wrong with the structure of the Philadelphia 76'ers, and they may not be capable of making it to the Finals. Count me as one of them. Philly takes on the Celtics Thursday at TD Garden. We will see if The process is still a work-in-progress.

Rules of survival: When search-and-rescue turns into body recovery

How the Hell did this happen? Two days after 19-year-old Emily Sotelo was supposedly dropped off in Franconia Notch (NH) at roughly 5:00 AM ET, Sunday, November 20, 2022 by her mother, to hike several mountains alone, the search continues for the young lady. Photo by Linda Lane The information from news agencies indicated that Emily started hiking the trails while it was still dark. She was supposedly wearing only sneakers, a coat and workout pants. I can persona;ly attest that the weather in the area was very cold with high wind speeds, and gaining elevation on the trails would only add to the horrendous conditions. Ms. Sotelo was reportedly a seasoned hiker, but had little or no experience hiking in winter. At the peaks, temperatures on that Sunday dropped to zero degrees with a wind chill of minus-30 degrees. It is beyond my comprehension to imagine a hiker-of-experience tackling that kind of travel - in extreme weather - with only basic clothes and few (or no) supplies. I have hik
