Celtics drop their season opener to Detroit

The 2026-27 NBA season is now underway. It's Boston Celtics versus Detroit Pistons - the top two teams in the previous season.

Joe Mazzulla is starting Jayson Tatum, Mitchell Robinson, Derrick White, Paul George - and Jordan Walsh. Jordan is active early on, and his massive wingspan is such a weapon for Boston.

It is no surprise that Jayson Tatum is running the show. Everything is going thjrough him, but thus far "The Green" are picking up turnovers too damn fast. Detroit is giving nothing to the Celtics.

Still in the first quarter a Tatum-to-Queta pass produces a gorgeous score. Things are looking up for Boston. Interesting to see Payton Pritchard work in the paint. Many would say a little guy doesn't belong there. Thankfully. Payton has ignored that mind-set.

The game is tied at 35-35 with 8:40 left in the second quarter. Robinson is on the bench with an ankle issue, but Luka Garza is working hard out there and doing some good things at both ends of the court. He may have more value than .that projected for him by the end of this season

With 4+ minutes left in the first half, the Celtics are clicking. Celtics are on a 15-0 run. Tatum showing his versatility with a pass to George for a 3-pointer. PG13 may surprise his naysayers. It's 58-45 in favor of Boston at the half-mark.

To open up the third quarter, another laser pass from Tatum to PG13 for the score. Celtics are on a run.It is 63-47 (Celtics) early in the second half. Now, Paul George is on fire. Celtics lead 72-52.

Stay tuned on the production from Paul George. Halfway through the 3rd quarter, he is the story of the game. It is only one incomplete contest, but this old guy may still have a lot in the tank.

The Pistons started to come back with lock=down defense, making the game competitive. Detroit was not making Boston's start to the season any easier.  And Detroit's Javonte Green (former Celtic) is wreaking havoc with his former team.

And now Duncan Robertson starts to exert himself for Detroit. He notched 20 points by the half-way point of the final quarter. It is now 107-99 in favor of the Pistons.

Final score. 121-113 with the Pistons the victors.

A sorrowful farewell to Kitty's Restaurant (North Reading, MA) as a family tradition

Time to say "Goodbye" to Kitty's Restaurant - my   family's destination and tradition for six generations and more than 80 years. My memories of Kitty's go back to the early-1950's . I would accompany my dad and grandfather on fishing trips to the Ipswich River in North Reading, Massachusetts - followed by a visit to the restaurant on Main Street. In later years, my wife, Linda, and I would eat there with our two kids, Marc and Lisa - and years later - with our two grand daughters - and still later - with our great grandson, Carson. Author and family at Kitty's approx. 10 years ago Kitty's never disappointed. The drinks were big and well-made . The food was terrific - as were the portions. The service was exceptional and we became well-acquainted with the waiters and waitresses. It all worked so very well for many decades. My grand daughter, Courtney , was particularly fond of the restaurant. She was born with cystic fibrosis , and during her fr...

Wemby versus Kareem as rookies

We already know that the Spurs Victor Wembanyama is going to be an NBA phenomenon, but will he surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar by the end of his career. It is highly likely.  I did a "per-36-minutes" comparison between the two stars, mainly because Kareem logged 43.1 MPG in his rookie campaign - while Wemby has been held to only 29.4 MPG. Kareem: 24.1 PPG - 12.1 RPG - 3.4 APG - .518 FG - .653 FT Wemby:  25.9 PPG - 12.9 RPG - 4.5 APG - .463 FG - .796 FT No blocks, steals or 3-pointers were looked at since they were not tracked in Jabbar's first year in the NBA. It should also be noted that Kareem was 22 years old at the time, while Victor started at age 20. Two factors favoring Wembanyama ultimately surpassing Jabbar on any "Best-of-All-Time" charts are his point guard skills , shared by so many European players.  and the fact he is being mentored by Gregg Popovich. His potential seems astounding. But the question remains. Can he garner six Titles and six MVP ...
