Dreams Come True

          My parents won tickets to this year's enshrinement and let me tell you I was like a little kid. We used to go to these events when I was younger. We also would go to the tip off classic and Hall of Fame games too. I remember seeing UMass beat Arkansas and take over the number one seed back on 95. In the early 90s the Bulls came and I was able to see Michael Jordan play and at halftime I touched him on the shoulder. Fast forward to Magic Johnsons enshrinement and we went out back after the ceremony. Who did we meet and shake hands with.... Larry Joe Bird and Earvin Magic Johnson. Talk about being up close and personal with 3 of the greatest to do it. I was able to meet Dr J at an event where he gave me his autograph. I also met the Chief, KC Jones, Dave Cowens and Kevin McHale. 

     Back to the present, we were able to meet Sean Grande, Mike Breen, Sam Cassell, Bernard King, Roy Williams, Amare Stoudimire, Shawn Marion, Calvin Murphy, Austin Rivers and.... Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Doc Rivers and Allen Iverson! We were lucky enough to get a picture with Doc. Plus we took a selfie with Paul Pierce, The Truth! What was great was meeting all these legends and thanking them for the basketball memories they have given us. I was greedy and hoping to meet KG but it never happened. We did get to partake in the VIP party and walk the red carpet. 

     I feel very lucky as a basketball lover to have met so many of my favorites not only as a kid and young adult but now as an almost middle aged man. There's a beauty in the game of basketball and that's why it's my favorite. At the end of the day it's just a game and these are just people like you and I but damn it's so cool. I guess what I'm sharing is never ever lose that excitement and kid inside because life is too short.

A sorrowful farewell to Kitty's Restaurant (North Reading, MA) as a family tradition

  Time to say "Goodbye" to Kitty's Restaurant - my   family's destination and tradition for six generations and more than 80 years. My memories of Kitty's go back to the early-1950's . I would accompany my dad and grandfather on fishing trips to the Ipswich River in North Reading, Massachusetts - followed by a visit to the restaurant on Main Street. In later years, my wife, Linda, and I would eat there with our two kids, Marc and Lisa - and years later - with our two grand daughters - and still later - with our great grandson, Carson. Wemby versus Kareem as rookies

 We already know that the Spurs Victor Wembanyama is going to be an NBA phenomenon, but will he surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar by the end of his career. It is highly likely.  I did a "per-36-minutes" comparison between the two stars, mainly because Kareem logged 43.1 MPG in his rookie campaign - while Wemby has been held to only 29.4 MPG. Kareem: 24.1 PPG - 12.1 RPG - 3.4 APG - .518 FG - .653 FT Wemby:  25.9 PPG - 12.9 RPG - 4.5 APG - .463 FG - .796 FT No blocks, steals or 3-pointers were looked at since they were not tracked in Jabbar's first year in the NBA. It should also be noted that Kareem was 22 years old at the time, while Victor started at age 20. Two factors favoring Wembanyama ultimately surpassing Jabbar on any "Best-of-All-Time" charts are his point guard skills , shared by so many European players.  and the fact he is being mentored by Gregg Popovich.
