It is Tuesday, February 3, 2026, and the cold weather, ice and snow arenn almost gone from the area of our rental in Surfside Beach, South Carolina. Getting here from Northern New Hampshire had some glitches, but our first few days down here were an absolute nightmare.

We had to postpone the start of our trip from New England due to an expected "STORM-ZILLA" intent on interupting out journey. But the trip down went fairly well since the snow cleanup crews had done their job
Our southern condo was near perfect - or so we thought. Then the temperatures plummeted - the condo below us had a water pipe burst - and we were without water. The management company found us a temporary replacement - which turned out to be a major downgrade. My wife, Linda, and I were there for two days and two nights while the repairs were going on in the unit below us. The pigeons on the deck of our replacement condo didn't seem to mind our intrusion.
This morning, we packed up all of our belongings for the umpteenth time - got back into our bright, warm original condo with a rejuvenated water supply - and sat on the deck in the sun, listening to tunes on the ipod. The ice and snow have melted, and the roads are clear. Thankfully, we only got about 2-inches of snow.
The photo above was taken from the Surfside Beach pier. The 3-mile walk to the pier and back in the (now) warm sun was refreshing. One person down here is from northern New York state, and he said he comes down every winter for the sun - which he hardly ever sees in his permanent home. My response to him was a clear "DITTO".
