Of course, I am being ridiculous! Whether you saw the John Travolta version - the Jake Gillenhaal film - or the Jerry Seinfeld episode, we know you can't confine someone with no natural immunity (or an NBA player with a propensity for getting injured) in a plastic bubble.
But Kristaps Porzingis is so damn important to the Celtics pursuit of Banner 18, that bit of fantasy did enter my mind. It is not simply about the big Latvian's stats (19.2 PPG. 6.6 RPG, 1.6 BPG) but the fact that he gets the Celtics away from their 3-point marathons.
Yes, he takes the long ball quite a bit (5.1 per game in attempts), but he has a solid inside offensive game - protects the rim - and is mobile enough to work on the perimeter. He changes almost everything for Boston. He will be sorely needed in the playoffs, and every Celtics fan worries that he may not be healthy by the end of the regular season.
So I realize the bubble idea is out, but Coach Joe Mazzulla is taking a cautious approach with Porzingis - such as the recent resting of the stretch-4/5 with a calf strain. Absolute no-brainer.
Author's note: Do you remember "the Moops" in the Seinfeld episode?
