Celtics need to match Nuggets' intellect - starting NOW!

NBA.Com's Isiah Thomas said it best. He talked about Nikola Jokic's "intellect" - his basketball IQ - but the former Detroit point guard could just as well been talking about the entire organization. Led by "The Joker", the Denver Nuggets have size and talent, but most of all their best attribute is from the neck up.

Following Denver's last-night's 108-95 win over the Miami Heat - putting them one game away from their first Title - the discussion among the analysts turned to past NBA superstars with that Jokic-like quality of being able to mentally overcome anything thrown at them - names like Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Tim Duncan.

Jokic is able to respond properly to any defense presented by the opposition. He can post up or hit from any distance. Larry Bird did the same.

I will strongly second the suggestion by Frosty Bias. It starts with Brad Stevens, a guy certainly not lacking in basketball intellect. Brad needs to tweak his roster with guys that play smart. And he and Joe Mazzulla truly need to use films of this Finals series between Miami and Denver as a training tool.

The Joker came very close to fouling out, but otherts took over. Jamal Murray had 12 assists with NO turnovers. Aaron Gordon had a team-high 27 points (11-of-15 FG) and added seven boards and six assists. Reserve Bruce Brown poured in 21 points on 8-of-11 FG and 3-of-5 on threes.

Celtics stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown know what do do - they just don't always do it. Chucking up 3-pointers whether they are falling or not is folly. Whose fault is that?  Stevens? Mazzulla? The Jay team?

Celtics owner, Wic Grousbeck, yelled at his team to "play with some balls". He should have told them "to play with some smarts". Let's hope fans see that in the upcoming season.

In defense of Marcus Smart

Let me make it clear first of all that I am totally against making a threat of any kind that even hints at harming, or certainly killing, another human being. Marcus Smart was wrong in doing so in the Celtics loss to the tanking Oklahoma City Thunder , and he deserved the one-game suspension. But to be honest, part of me loved that it occurred. . This type of thing can happen when a player gets to a point "beyond frustration" and is having a bad game. Marcus and his teammates have been under-performing generally - were in the process of losing to a pathetic-and-tanking Thunder team - and Smart was having a bad game . And he let loose verbally at the closest target - an NBA official. Wilt Chamberlain did a similar act versus referee, Earl Strom when Wilt was having his usual tortuous time at the free throw line (per Chicago Tribune's Sam Smith): ''He was in one of those 1-for-13s,'' recalls referee Earl Strom. ''Nothing was getting close. S

Did the Celtics Kevin McHale really have a wingspan of 8-feet?

According to many sources, the Celtics Kevin McHale did indeed have an estimated wingspan of 8-feet. One of those sources is Wikipedia, as seen below: Kevin McHale American basketball player DescriptionKevin Edward McHale is an American retired basketball player who played his entire professional career for the Boston Celtics.
