Let me be direct! I honestly don't want to see Payton Pritchard traded elsewhere.
There has to be a place for this 6'1", not-terribly-athletic combo guard on this Celtics roster. Flash back to Sunday's beating-up of the Charlotte Hornets. Even though he only hit 2-of-6 from the field and 1-of-3 from deep (for five points), guess who had a team-high five assists? Yes, it was Pritchard. In only 18 minutes.
In some ways, Payton is a smaller version of newly-acquired Malcolm Brogdon. They can both be considered as combo guards, but Brogdon has the height advantage at 6'5". We can be fairly sure that Malcolm will log the greater number of minutes, but hopefully Pritchard's push-the-pace hustle, sniper skills and facilitation prowess will earn him significant floor time.
The idea of the effective "little man" in Boston basketball should never become extinct!
