Why is it the Wolverine never gets any consideration for Defensive Player of the Year? Year after year he just gets better, whether he's hounding who he's guarding or challenging the other teams best player. How many times have we witnessed him banging with the Greek down low?! The Wolverine is unafraid to get down, get dirty and get DEFENSIVE!
He sets the tone for this Celtics team and has throughout his career. If you need a charge, or a key steal it's usually taken care of by him! How many of us remember what he did to James Harden a few years ago?! He has signature defensive plays throughout most games! He is always willing to give his body up to get a change. He's sells it we'll, but usually he's in great position. You also must approve of his fire and willingness to bark at other teams!
He may not carry the name of a big, like a Gobert or even the Greek. What he does do is change the game in the Celtics favor on the defensive end. He has a nose and knack for the ball! I feel his ability to get under the opponents skin is his best attribute, because once he's in their head his skills take over. Why did I write this well it's my case as to say Marcus Smart future Defensive Player of the Year!
