Celtics Payton Pritchard takes 7th slot in Kia Rookie Ladder

Celtics rookie, Payton Pritchard, has landed at number-7 in Kia's Rookie Ladder, despite being the lowest draft selection (#26) of the top-10.

7. Payton Pritchard, Boston Celtics

Season stats: 8.6 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 3.1 apg

Pretty high rung for the lowest Draft selection (No. 26) on our ladder, but hitting game-winners (Jan. 6 vs. Miami) will do that

It is far too early to label the 6'1" point guard as the steal of the draft, but there is plenty of time left for him to climb the ladder. Here are the standings:

1.) Hornets LeMelo Ball

2.) Warriors James Wiseman

3.) Kings Tyrese Haliburton

4.) Wolves Anthony Edwards

5.) Bulls Patrick Williams

6.) 76'ers Tyrese Maxey

7.) Celtics Payton Pritchard

8.) Wizards Deni Avdija

9.) Magics Cole Anthony

10.) Pistons Saddiq Bey

What is noteworthy is that Pritchard beat out nine (9) lottery picks, including the Celtics lone lottery pick (Aaron Nesmith at #14) who did not appear on the latest Kia Rookie Ladder.

In defense of Marcus Smart

Let me make it clear first of all that I am totally against making a threat of any kind that even hints at harming, or certainly killing, another human being. Marcus Smart was wrong in doing so in the Celtics loss to the tanking Oklahoma City Thunder , and he deserved the one-game suspension. But to be honest, part of me loved that it occurred. . This type of thing can happen when a player gets to a point "beyond frustration" and is having a bad game. Marcus and his teammates have been under-performing generally - were in the process of losing to a pathetic-and-tanking Thunder team - and Smart was having a bad game . And he let loose verbally at the closest target - an NBA official. Wilt Chamberlain did a similar act versus referee, Earl Strom when Wilt was having his usual tortuous time at the free throw line (per Chicago Tribune's Sam Smith): ''He was in one of those 1-for-13s,'' recalls referee Earl Strom. ''Nothing was getting close. S...
