With 10-year NBA vet, Evan Turner, coming in to the Celtics organization as an Assistant Coach in charge of player development, the question many may ask is, "Why him?"

Well, if you haven't noticed, coach Brad Stevens is locked into mid-sized wings, and Turner is certainly that. The 6'6", 220-pounder was taken with the second overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft by Philadelphia - has played for five teams (2 seasons in Boston) - and has performed as a point guard, shooting guard and small forward. His experience is broad, and that is what is needed to guide the current Celtics crew.
ET has no Championship rings and zero All-Star appearances, but I might argue that middle-of-the-road players often make the best coaches. Former-Celtics, K C Jones, Rick Carlisle and Don Nelson, all fit that category. So does Turner. Lack of star talent usually means the player needs to develop protocols and strategies more-skilled guys don't require.
And having recently turned 32 years of age, Evan is still able to mix it up with the young recruits to get his point across. No one knows how his addition to The Green will work out, but many fans in the know have voiced that another former player was needed on the Celtics bench to aid in getting the young guys on track. Turner, nicknamed "The Kid", may just be the right choice.
