Celtics 2003 draft pick, Troy Bell, to have jersey retired by Boston College

Boston College is scheduled to retire the jersey of Eagles' All-American, Troy Bell, on Saturday, September 25, 2020 in conjunction with BC's game versus Virginia Tech. Bell was taken by the Celtics with the 16th overall pick in the 2003 NBA draft and quickly traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in a deal that brought Marcus Banks and Kendrick Perkins to Boston. Troy later went on to play for seven different teams in the EuroLeague and other locations around the globe.


As a collegian, Bell was a 2-time Big East Player-of-the-Year, 2-time Concensus Second Team All-American and 3-time First Team All-Big East (per Athletic Communications, Boston College):

A two-time consensus All-American in 2001 and 2003, (Troy) Bell finished his four-year career at Boston College as the program's all-time leading scorer, with 2,632 points. During that span, from 1999-2003, Bell was the top scorer in all of college basketball, at 21.6 points per game.

The Big East Rookie of the Year in 1999-2000, Bell was also one of only six players to earn Big East Player of the Year honors twice. The Minneapolis, Minn. native was the league's top player as a sophomore in 2000-01 and senior in 2002-03 and was a three-time First Team All-Big East selection from 2000-03.



Bell has left the world of basketball for a career as a music producer. We wish him the quantity and quality of production we witnessed watching him on the hardwood. The BC-Vs.-Virginia Tech game starts at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 25, and I will be there with my wife, Linda, and my great grandson, Carson Thomas Lane due to the graciousness of Boston College Sports Properties' Michael Winn and the BC Eagles. We look forward to it.

A sorrowful farewell to Kitty's Restaurant (North Reading, MA) as a family tradition

  Time to say "Goodbye" to Kitty's Restaurant - my   family's destination and tradition for six generations and more than 80 years. My memories of Kitty's go back to the early-1950's . I would accompany my dad and grandfather on fishing trips to the Ipswich River in North Reading, Massachusetts - followed by a visit to the restaurant on Main Street. In later years, my wife, Linda, and I would eat there with our two kids, Marc and Lisa - and years later - with our two grand daughters - and still later - with our great grandson, Carson.
