Semi Ojeleye is seeing more time on the floor over the last four games, averaging 20.4 minutes/game over that span. His rebounding and shooting accuracy have both improved, and his defense remains potent. He is averaging 5.0 PPG, 3.3 RPG and a plus/minus of +8.0 for the four contests, while shooting 43% from the field, 44% beyond the arc and 80% from the free throw line.
Last night versus the Heat, Semi scored five points and grabbed seven boards, coming away with a plus/minus of +21. Despite lack of offensive production until recently, Ojeleye's contract is a bargain for Boston. He earns $1.6 million this season, and $1.8 million next year, with a team option. Danny Ainge has until July 1, 2020 to decide whether to retain Semi or let him walk. At a mere $1.8 million, he should stick or possibly become part of a trade down the road.
It is well known that with Brad Stevens as coach, defense gets you on the floor and offense keeps you there. Semi has taken a hit from some fans for his play in limited minutes. Brad doesn't seem to agree with that lot and is running Ojeleye for longer stints to determine if he is just an end-of-bench player or part of a consistent rotation.
