Danny Ainge insists Hayward's foot issue not related to 2017 ankle injury

Danny Ainge was a guest this morning on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher and Rich and was asked about Gordon Hayward's foot injury. According to NBC Sports Darren Hartwell, Ainge insisted that the current left foot injury is in no way related to Gordon's devastating ankle injury at the start of the 2017 NBA season.

(Ainge): "He (Hayward) just has a toe/foot injury. It's right where your toe connects to your foot. But it's just some pain and we are trying to figure out what it is."

The foot issue came about prior to Hayward's hand injury, and he underwent an MRI a few weeks ago that revealed no structural damage. Danny went on to suggest that Gordon was doing a lot of work while rehabbing from the hand injury, and maybe Hayward did too much. "I don't think Gordon knows what caused it", Ainge continued.

My experience suggests that the fact Gordon has no knowledge of what caused the issue may be a good sign. The location of the intense pain at the base of the big toe could even be caused by an attack of gout, having nothing to do with physical activity. Also, not knowing the original cause of the pain can often be an indication that the issue is not serious. Let's hope that is the case. We await results of Gordon's latest MRI. Nothing that Danny Ainge had to say causes me to get overly concerned, at least until more medical results are forthcoming.

In defense of Marcus Smart

Let me make it clear first of all that I am totally against making a threat of any kind that even hints at harming, or certainly killing, another human being. Marcus Smart was wrong in doing so in the Celtics loss to the tanking Oklahoma City Thunder , and he deserved the one-game suspension. But to be honest, part of me loved that it occurred. . This type of thing can happen when a player gets to a point "beyond frustration" and is having a bad game.
