Boston Celtics: Is Carsen Edwards the new Green Running Machine?

Boston Celtics rookie, Carsen Edwards, looks like he may be the next Green Running Machine. Celts legend, John Havlicek was the original never-ending runner on the parquet (per SI's John Underwood):

(John Havlicek): "I knew from the first time I played this game that the toughest guy to score on was the guy who kept after me all the time, nose-to-nose, basket-to-basket. The opposite is also true. The toughest guy to defend against is the guy who keeps running. Who never lets up. Never lets you relax. Who sneaks one in on you the first time you drag your feet. I never worried about the physical part, killing myself running or anything like that. I read once where a doctor said you'd pass out before you did any real damage. I never passed out."

There was no standing around on the hardwood for John. He moved all the time, wearing out opponent after opponent. I see a similar bent in Carsen Edwards. He almost never stands still. Edwards will never equal Havlicek's defensive ability, but we can expect his usual constant motion on offense to transition to his defensive game.


At 6'0.25", 200 pounds - with a 6'6" wingspan and a lean 5.5% body fat, Carsen should have the capability of covering larger opponents. But his path may be the opposite of the late John Havlicek - who started out as a very tough defender who rarely shot the ball. Edwards is a scorer with a Capital "S". He moves and gets his shot off by creating space and letting it fly with no warning. Expect his constant-motion defense to follow in Brad Stevens system. He is going to be exciting to watch. Taken by Danny Ainge with the 33rd pick in the 2019 NBA draft, we may be looking at the steal of the draft.

"Jarrin John" Havlicek even had trouble remaining still for Diet Rite Cola commercial. He is motionless for a while but gets moving as the commercial progresses. A Blast-From-The-Past.

A sorrowful farewell to Kitty's Restaurant (North Reading, MA) as a family tradition

  Time to say "Goodbye" to Kitty's Restaurant - my   family's destination and tradition for six generations and more than 80 years. My memories of Kitty's go back to the early-1950's . I would accompany my dad and grandfather on fishing trips to the Ipswich River in North Reading, Massachusetts - followed by a visit to the restaurant on Main Street. In later years, my wife, Linda, and I would eat there with our two kids, Marc and Lisa - and years later - with our two grand daughters - and still later - with our great grandson, Carson. Wemby versus Kareem as rookies

 We already know that the Spurs Victor Wembanyama is going to be an NBA phenomenon, but will he surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar by the end of his career. It is highly likely.  I did a "per-36-minutes" comparison between the two stars, mainly because Kareem logged 43.1 MPG in his rookie campaign - while Wemby has been held to only 29.4 MPG. Kareem: 24.1 PPG - 12.1 RPG - 3.4 APG - .518 FG - .653 FT Wemby:  25.9 PPG - 12.9 RPG - 4.5 APG - .463 FG - .796 FT No blocks, steals or 3-pointers were looked at since they were not tracked in Jabbar's first year in the NBA. It should also be noted that Kareem was 22 years old at the time, while Victor started at age 20. Two factors favoring Wembanyama ultimately surpassing Jabbar on any "Best-of-All-Time" charts are his point guard skills , shared by so many European players.  and the fact he is being mentored by Gregg Popovich.
