Kemba Walker will determine Celtics chances of getting out of the East in post-season

The stagnation of the Jay Team, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, last season can't happen again if Boston has a chance to come out of the East in the post-season and fight for a Title. I believe the Jay Team and the new guys in town will thrive, and Kemba Walker is the main reason for that. He has the skills, character and personality to take this challenge on, and that is why Danny Ainge brought him here.

Blame last season's disarray on bad chemistry, clashing egos or simply a bad mix of skills and personalities, but Ainge and Brad Stevens have worked on the remedies, and Kemba is one of them. Making the players around you better is one of the main goals of an NBA star. At least one member of the Jay Team needs a breakout season for Boston to have major success.

And Walker's positive influence doesn't end with Jaylen and Jayson. Carsen Edwards was one of three Summer League participants mentioned in NBA TV's morning broadcast as standouts, with Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Tyler Herro being the other two. Having the right mentor is vital for his success, as it is for the other Celtics draftees.

Kyrie Irving's skills were off the charts during his tenure in Boston, but the less-than-optimum mix of players and egos took the team out of contention. Virtually everything has to click with the Celtics this time around, and that always means a bit of luck - an element certainly lacking the last two seasons. Is Kemba a large part of the cure? I think so. We, the fans, deserve a better season. I think we will have that.

  1. I think it will be a helluva lot easier for the young Celtics to like Kemba than it was with Kyrie. That may make all the difference. If Kanter plays at least C-minus defense and Time Lord can give twenty minutes of quality production a game, the Cs may be a handful in the wide-open NBA next season. Go, Cs!

    1. The East is pretty open. The West could be tough. Kyrie always seemed to be argumentative and pissed off last season. That won't be missed. Kemba is definitely more likable, and I doubt we will see him being sullen and difficult in post-game interviews.

Nik Stauskas adds "shooting with size" voiced by Brad Stevens

As a 6'6" shooting guard, 28-year-old Nik Stauskas adds that shooting with size sorely needed by the Boston Celtics. Drafted 8th-overall by the Sacramento Kings in 2014, Stauskas has bounced around to various teams since then. Nik Stauskas' deal with the Boston Celtics includes non-guaranteed salary for the second season in 2022-23, a source tells @celticsblog . — Keith Smith (@KeithSmithNBA) March 4, 2022 Nik has never averaged more than 9.5 points per game in the NBA, but Boston is most likely counting on his production for Grand Rapids in the G League as the incentive to sign him. In 17 games thus far, he has averaged 24.7 PPG, 6.2 RPG, 4.8 APG - while shooting 50% on field goals and 45% on treys. Nik Stauskas is signing a two-year deal with the Boston Celtics, his agents Mark Bartelstein and Andy Shiffman of @PrioritySports tell ESPN. Stauskas had an historic week, scoring 100 points on 57 and 43 point performances in back-to-back games for Grand Rapids. — Adrian Wo

Rick Barry belittling Bill Russell on TV revealed the real fool

It happened on national TV during the 1981 NBA Finals . Two of the announcers were Rick Barry and Bill Russell . When asked who was in a photo passed to Barry, Rick responded, "I don't know. Looks like some fool over there (referring to Russ) with the watermelon grin on. Russell repeatedly indicated the photo was of KC Jones , but Barry would have none of it. Worth watching. Russ vs. Rick Barry! The "fool with the watermelon grin" wasn't Bill. It was Barry. Don't believe it was racial, but the two didn't get along. Russ was clearly pissed. Rick Barry - Watermelon Grin https://t.co/NrUSkzrwZH via @YouTube — Tom Lane (@CelticsSentinel) September 24, 2021 Bill responded with, "That was K. C. That wasn't me. That was K. C." Then Barry tried to pass the photo to Bill, and Russ wanted none of that either. "No. I don't want them" is how Russell responded, clearly pissed, but still maintaining that aura of class and composure. Alth
