A plea to Danny Ainge upon the death of Tremont Waters' father

It has been confirmed by Connecticut authorities that the father of the Celtics Tremont Waters died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Ed Waters was only 49 years old, and his death, and the manner in which it occurred, will be with his family forever.

Several months ago, a very close friend of mine died in a similar manner, and my thoughts of his last hours, minutes and seconds won't leave me - his phone call to police describing his intentions (suicide by gunshot), destination and the note he left behind. Tremont and his family will long feel the pain that was transferred to them from Ed Waters upon his death.

My mentor and former colleague, CelticsWire's Justin Quinn, presented a great idea, one that became more logical after this terrible incident. With the signing of Carsen Edwards, Danny Ainge needs to find a way to retain both Tremont and The Jolly Green Giant, Tacko Fall. If Green Giant doesn't pounce on this, they will regret it.

The idea of moving Waters to a standard NBA deal, while rendering his 2-way slot to Tacko, is a reasonable basketball decision - and terrific from-the-heart gesture by Danny Ainge. Tremont (can we call him Tre) needs to remain with the other three Celts draftees. He is skilled, with a high basketball IQ - and he is clever with the ball. Fall could use some seasoning in the G-League, while getting a taste of NBA compeition when he comes to Boston.

And I am not joking about the Tacko-Green Giant idea. As my readers know well, I got into trouble in my last Celtics writing venue joining in with my readers in a good laugh. Come on, Danny. Ease the pain this nice young man and his family are feeling. Tremont may never be a star, but he has a place on that Celtics bench. Great idea, Justin.

  1. 8:30 AM NE time is reasonable; 5:30 AM Pacific time less so although doable if remembered.
It's not as if I get up at 5:30 AM and say, hmmm, is there something interesting or important to watch on TV round about now that I might have forgotten?

Mitchell was in Tatum's rookie class, chosen 10 picks after Tatum was taken at #3. Even though Tatum is playing well despite his shooting percentage being low, it looks like Mitchell should make the NBA All Star team before Tatum does.

Rules of survival: When search-and-rescue turns into body recovery

How the Hell did this happen? Two days after 19-year-old Emily Sotelo was supposedly dropped off in Franconia Notch (NH) at roughly 5:00 AM ET, Sunday, November 20, 2022 by her mother, to hike several mountains alone, the search continues for the young lady. Photo by Linda Lane The information from news agencies indicated that Emily started hiking the trails while it was still dark. She was supposedly wearing only sneakers, a coat and workout pants. I can persona;ly attest that the weather in the area was very cold with high wind speeds, and gaining elevation on the trails would only add to the horrendous conditions. Ms. Sotelo was reportedly a seasoned hiker, but had little or no experience hiking in winter. At the peaks, temperatures on that Sunday dropped to zero degrees with a wind chill of minus-30 degrees. It is beyond my comprehension to imagine a hiker-of-experience tackling that kind of travel - in extreme weather - with only basic clothes and few (or no) supplies. I have hik

Nik Stauskas adds "shooting with size" voiced by Brad Stevens

As a 6'6" shooting guard, 28-year-old Nik Stauskas adds that shooting with size sorely needed by the Boston Celtics. Drafted 8th-overall by the Sacramento Kings in 2014, Stauskas has bounced around to various teams since then. Nik Stauskas' deal with the Boston Celtics includes non-guaranteed salary for the second season in 2022-23, a source tells @celticsblog . — Keith Smith (@KeithSmithNBA) March 4, 2022 Nik has never averaged more than 9.5 points per game in the NBA, but Boston is most likely counting on his production for Grand Rapids in the G League as the incentive to sign him. In 17 games thus far, he has averaged 24.7 PPG, 6.2 RPG, 4.8 APG - while shooting 50% on field goals and 45% on treys. Nik Stauskas is signing a two-year deal with the Boston Celtics, his agents Mark Bartelstein and Andy Shiffman of @PrioritySports tell ESPN. Stauskas had an historic week, scoring 100 points on 57 and 43 point performances in back-to-back games for Grand Rapids. — Adrian Wo
