PANIC IN THE SEATS! Celtics fans need to chill out

With the Boston Celtics on a 3-game losing streak, there is panic in the seats - those seats being the ones occupied by fans at TD Garden, private homes and drinking establishments. Hey, no one said this 2019-20 version of The Green is perfect. The players are relatively young, and many lack the seasoning and fortitude to withstand the rigors of an 82-game season, not including playoffs. The clincher was Boston's 109-98 loss to the Joel Embiid-less, Al Horford-led 76'ers on Thursday night. Al took control of the center position in Embiid's absence and throttled his former teammates. Boston's 3-game losing streak is bad enough, but being win-less (0-3) this season versus the Sixers is worrisome. The Guys in Green can't seem to beat Philly either with or without 76'ers' star big man, Joel Embiid. The season is approaching the mid-point, and Boston is in the midst of a tough schedule this month. But we can't assume the dominant play Boston fans saw earl...

Celtics-version Al Horford takes control to upend Boston in 109-98 76'ers victory

Former-Celtic, Al Horford had openly stated that his skills were not being totally utilized in his present role with the Philadelphia 76'ers . Well, all of that changed last night with Joel Embiid on the shelf with a hand injury. Al started at center for the Embiid-less Sixers, and logged a typical line we remember from his days as a member of the Boston Celtics. In the 109-98 win over Boston, he produced 17 points, eight rebounds, six assists, one steal, two blocks and a team-high plus-minus of +19. There were plenty of people questioning the decision to sign 33-year-old Al Horford during the Sixers' four-game losing streak. But Horford could make Elton Brand look awfully smart over the next several games. ( @PaulHudrick ) https://t.co/u8SurXLcZq — NBC Sports Philadelphia (@NBCSPhilly) January 10, 2020 Embiid is expected to be out of action for a while following surgery, and Horford will be back at the center spot where he played most of the time with the Celtics. Miami Heat have quietly leapfrogged Celtics for second-best record in East

The Celtics no longer have a hold on the number-2 standing in the Eastern Conference. The Miami Heat have taken over that slot after winning their last two games, while Boston has racked up two losses in a row. The Heat's record is now 27-10, just ahead of the Celtics at 25-10. Great team win vs @Pacers . Let’s go @MiamiHEAT !!! #TheDragon 🐲🔥 Good night pic.twitter.com/NToldzKrnv — Goran Dragić (@Goran_Dragic) January 9, 2020 Miami goes 11-deep with players logging double-digit minutes. Seven Miami players are putting up double-digits in points, and two of them, Kendrick Nunn and Tyler Herro, are rookies. Nunn averages 15.4 PPG and 4.5 APG, while Herro averages 13.5 PPG, 4.4 RPG and 2.1 APG. The Heat's 6'9" center, Bam Adebayo, and Jimmy Walker are both having All-Star-level seasons. Bam is producing 15.7 PPG, 10.6 RPG, 4.5 APG, 1.3 SPG and 1.2 BPG. Butler is the team's top scorer at 20.2 Points/game, while also adding 6.9 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 2.0 st...

Celtics need to move on from last night's loss as quickly as Kemba Walker was ejected

The pick last night by LaMarcus Aldridge on Kemba Walker was a hard one, but not illegal - at least as defined by the officials. Looking closely at the play repeatedly, that appears to be the case - no obvious foul. The real issues were the two protests by Walker to the no-call by the officials - the quick ejection of the two-time NBA Sportsmanship award winner who had never been tossed in his entire career - and the throwing of a beer can onto the parquet by a fan who was quickly identified and escorted out of the arena. On a strange night in Boston, the Celtics got routed, Kemba Walker got ejected and a fan got arrested for throwing a can of beer onto the court. https://t.co/Vuv4cDVJN7 — Tim Bontemps (@TimBontemps) January 9, 2020 The protests to the officials were certainly un-Kemba-like, but understandable to an extent. Walker truly felt he had been fouled. But the second technical following Kemba's additional outburst seemed just a bit too quick. The officials probably need...

Brian Scalabrine had no chance vs. Marcus Smart at H.O.R.S.E

Apparently, when you player H.O.R.S.E against Marcus Smart, it's called S.M.A.R.T. Brian Scalabrine learned a few things during the contest. This @smart_MS3 Trick Shot challenge vs @Scalabrine is a must watch #MarcusSmartDay https://t.co/aNbxepQyMu — Marcus Smart Day on NBC Sports Boston (@NBCSCeltics) January 8, 2020 Marcus swears there is a purpose behind him practicing trick shots. He indicated that you never know what type of shot may present itself during a game - thus the weird variety of attempts he practices. Scal never had a chance in this contest. A Gordon Hayward-for-Andre Drummond deal makes no sense for Celtics

There would have been a time when burly center, Andre Drummond would have been a good fit with the Boston Celtics. But that time is not now. With the Detroit Pistons reportedly engaged in discussions with other teams about a trade for the big man, the odds of the Boston Celtics making such a deal allegedly are among the best, but it shouldn't happen.. Celtics among best sportsbook odds to deal for Drummond https://t.co/XgkDpWJ2jk — The Celtics Wire (@TheCelticsWire) January 7, 2020 One of the high-salary Guys in Green would have to be sent to Detroit to make the dollars work, and forward Gordon Hayward's contract could make such a trade possible. But why do it? Andre plays roughly 34 minutes per game, and I present his numbers with Enes Kanter's per-36-minutes stats: Drummond (34 minutes): 17.5 PPG, 16.0 RPG, 2.7 APG, 2.0 SPG, 1.9 BPG, 52.9% FG, 63.6% FT Kanter (36 minutes): 17.7 PPG, 16.2 RPG, 2.2 APG, 0.7 SPG, 0.8 BPG, 56.7% FG, 66.7% FT This is not to say that ...

Rookie Tremont Waters makes things happen on the court

Celtics rookie Tremont Waters took to the court for only seven minutes in the Celtics 99-94 loss to the Wizards last night, but he made the most of them. He put up eight points and assisted on a Grant Williams' 3-pointer. The youngster just knows how to get opponents off balance in order to get to the hoop and score. He almost always seems to be in control. “Tremont is just a bucket-getter ... When you put him in the game, he’s always looking to make something happen, and usually he does.” On a night when our offense struggled, rookie Tremont Waters proved to be a bright spot. https://t.co/SpNe0VO6nI — Boston Celtics (@celtics) January 7, 2020 Waters is perfectly capable of hitting the long ball, but he often takes the hard road - driving into the pack to put up a shot attempt or get the ball to a teammate. He can be difficult to stop ( per NBA's Taylor Snow ): Waters scored six points during the final 4:30 of the third frame, which helped Boston to cut a seven-point de...
