Let me start by reminding Celtics fans that Larry Bird used to screw around when his team had a decent lead. But the wins kept coming. This current version of The Green doesn't have the luxury of relaxing and "getting a little cute" when it may seem they have the game in hand.

Ime Udoka says the team started to act like the game was over late in the 3rd.. "Started to relax, get a little cute, careless"
Bird and his cohorts were so good, they could afford to go into cruise control and still come out with a win. Not the present bunch. But early relaxation and carelessness are not the main issues here. The truth is - this team lacks the killer instinct.
With only a decent lead, they choose to take life easy and not jam the ball down the throats of the opposition - thereby putting the game totally out of reach for the opposing team. The 128-114 loss at the hands of the Bulls at TD Garden should not have happened, and fans can expect some furor over that outcome. Ime Udoka may not have the stethoscope that Danny Ainge used on his teammates a while back, but it may be time for him to play the guys that refuse to give up - the idea being, if the team is going to lose anyway, play the guys with a heart strong enough to play hard until that final buzzer sounds.
